To hell with Georgia (maybe we can agree on that).

So scoring 3 points in the 2nd half is considered running up the score? Interesting.

actually should have put "trying" to run up the score and with that caveat, yes.

Had Miles wanted to run up the score he would have done so.

I don't think that there is much evidence that Les and company were trying to run it up. Do you seriously think that the GT defense that gave up 35 in the first half suddenly found themselves and held us scoreless in the second half? And the worst face (from LSU's point of view) that you can put on the fake punt is that the LSU defense had a shutout going (no TDs by the vaunted GT offense) and the best way to sustain that was to keep their offense on the bench. The fake wasn't to get a score. It was to help protect a terrific effort by the defense.

only thing i have to say about the whole thing is
usc beats a team by 70 and that shows how great they are
we beat a team by 35 and are "running up the score"

I guess by your logic, GTech was also trying to run up the score. What a bunch of classless jerks.

There ya go. Many, many, but mot all, on this site assumed USC was trying to run up the score when they scored 69 etc, without knowing what happenen in the game. In one game, USC ran the ball the entire second half, virtually up the gut the entire time. In the other game, they threw one pass the entire second half and that was on a broken play with the pass going to a back behind the line of scrimmage. Folks were so quick to say Petey was trying to run up the score, which of course he was not. However, when Miles calls fake punts and long passes late in the game, foks are just as quick to say he was NOT trying to run up the score.
But again, I am not saying Miles was trying to runup the score. I am just pointing out the obvious inconsistencies that so many here fail to see.

Did not say or imply that Miles was trying to run up the score.

My bad, I made that assumption based of your comment

Does this mean you don't think any team runs up the score?

No. IMO, some surely do. Not all, maybe not most.

USC can't help but run up the score with the talent level advantage they have in the PAC-10.
With 5 and 4 star recruits waiting their turn on the bench, there is no holding them back when they get their chance on the field.
However, I am not sure how often USC pulls their starting QB to keep the score down. Can anyone give examples of Petey pulling the star QB late in a game?

Washington, Washington State, with one in the very early 3rd quarter, the other in the 3rd as well. In other games back-ups saw PT as well
However, the back-up QB's are 5 and 4 stars as well. Even with Sanchez was in those games in the 2nd half, they ran the ball up the gut.

Yes. They are so fantastic, they can't help it. All they have to do is think touchdown and they score!

I think he means with 5* backs for example, a run up the gut likely results in more yards than other team's back-ups. They are not going to lie down. ABout all they can do is run. They are certainly not going to stop just short of the goal line and fall down.

good god, message boards blow shite out of proportion
they put in a fake punt and worked on it for weeks
miles thought he may need it at some point in a close game
the kids liked it, game wasn't in doubt...hell, have fun
in a bowl game, things are different
the whole bowl experience is supposed to be fun
the players and staff was getting "itchy" for the play call, so he let it go. it was really nothing more

I agree. I did not have a problem with it.

In the last 3 bowl games we have played, when we are up 3+ TD's late in the game, we have pulled a fake kick of some sort out of the play book. Anyone who was not expecting that, did not do their homework.
