The story is also told in the "Greatest Moments's in LSU Football History" by the editors of the Advocate on page 171

actually, it does appear that they guy runs onto the field from the sideline. See the 1:32 mark on that video. Not saying that's not a real ref and this story is true, but...

There's a generally accepted thing in Air Force circles... when it comes to bestowing a call sign on someone, there needs to be a good story to go along with it. That story needs to be at least 10% true. The rest is taken with a grain of salt. If this guy's story isn't true, it's still a great story.

If it is true -

then that's an Ole Miss fan on the field of play during a play.

That has to be some sort of penalty.

PENALTY DECLINED!

I went ahead and took the liberty of declining this penalty for the Tigers.

The story is 100% true. It's been known to be true for at least 12-15 years. In the age of farking, fake documents and misrepresentation; I can understand people who question the reality of this. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and that is true of this subject. The guy has nuts the size of coconuts.

That is a real ref. running with Billy Cannon and he has been interviewed many times in the past, he is not a fake ref.

I would like to believe that is a true story.

The best pic I can get from that grainy vid on youtube. It may appear that he was out of bounds and steps on to the field.

I dont know?

I would think this is BS.If he is 65 now he would have been 15.Too young to be a high school ref.

I'm going to wait until Bengal55 chimes in on the veracity of this story. It seems he is still contemplating his official position on this.

Story is from 1995, not this year.

Somebody commented on today's column that I should write a column about the guy dressed as a referee who followed Billy Cannon down the sidelines on that 89-yard punt return. Well, I did back in 1995. It was the first time Bill Rogers story ever came to light.

The blog interview took place in 1995 when he was 65 yrs. old. In 1959, 36 years ago, he would have een 29 years old, so it fits. Now, whether it is true or not...I am not going to say, I wasn't there.
