re: Fair Assessment of Barrett Bailey

How many other BCS offers did JJ have?

Well one thing I can say about Bailey over Z. Lee is that Bailey wants to be here and he wants to play for us. I hope he develops well and gets a chance to compete with Rivers for the starting job in 2 years. He seems like he has the talent, just need to get him up to speed with the SEC.
But I'll support any kid that wants to be an LSU Tiger and is working hard to make contributions to this team.

JJ is a local QB who committed in november to an elite BCS school, and i don't think he was open to take trips

JJ is a pocket passer
Ok....but he can't read a defense to save his life, and his delivery is way too slow.
Also, the kid can't seem to grasp one of the most basic fundamentals of quarterbacking at any level, i.e. in the face of an oncoming pass rush, he takes a sack rather than stepping up into the pocket to throw.
We might not ever know how good JJ could be because LSU doesn't have a true QB coach to work with him and develop what talent he does have.
If Crowton sticks around, expect this trend to continue with Bailey, Rivers, etc.

#101 rated QB on Scout.
Being the #24 rated duel-threat QB is not a compliment.

Les said Bailey's the best QB he's ever coached.
Said he throws an accurate ball with a tight spiral. Teaching him that option play right now.

If he ever starts a game at LSU for any reason besides an injury epidemic I will shave my head, go out in the street naked and call myself banana man.
And I'm not saying this to be mean to the guy. I know him fairly well and he's a good guy and he's a good athlete, I saw him play a few times in high school. Just not an SEC caliber player IMHO. He could serve as a good backup for a few years and I'm fairly certain that's what his role will be.

Why not give the kid a chance? He can't be much worse than JJ or JL.

He was recruited by some d1 schools, maybe no offers because he wouldn't leave BR . Just goes to show how people here ignore facts, to further their own agendas. Must have a lot of future politicians on the rant.

Bailey is an under-the-radar prospect as a pocket passer with very good size, solid arm strength, very good accuracy and a nice feel for timing. He is a fundamentally sound guy that displays good footwork, good drop speed and a balanced set-up within the pocket. Is at his best working...
ESPN Insider
This is not "paid" inside information. The quote is on the front page of the report. The lead into the paid site.
Now, if you look at the video, those comments accurately reflect what is seen in the video. I realize this is just a compilation of great shots; however, if you go about 3/4 of the way through, you will see about a 20 yard sideline throw dropped into the receiver who has a defender below and above him.
I'm not saying that throw or the video proves he is a great quarterback, but it sure doesn't make him look bad.
I don't know, though, that I what say he doesn't have a shot one day or that he is not an SEC QB. The comments made on ESPN Insider are pretty telling for all of us who know zip about the kid.
Here is hoping for the best...that our current QBs perform and Baily isn't called upon to "bail" LSU out.

all we need is a smart game manager. not a world beater.
BB looks like that type, but who knows.
we need two things:
1. some good QB recruits to sign
2. have each of them get a chance to start.
right now we dont have either one.

Bailey is a good camp QB. Will be a decent scout QB and probably is better than you typical walk-on QB. But he is nowhere near able to play SEC ball this year and who knows if he will be in the future. He needs to get stronger. He may end up being one of those rare under the radar guys, but most likely he will be a guy who is a good backup to have.

By the way, Louisville was the only school to recruit him as a qb and he had to wait until someone didn't qualify to actually get a scholly.
