Just looked over Utah State's roster and holy cow are they tall.

They feature 3 7 footers, two that are 6'10", a few 6'8" kids.

Will Wade said they should be ranked in the top 10 instead of #15.

I'm afraid our lack of height in the post catches up with us at 6 p.m. this evening. Going to be interesting to watch.

I’m hearing the game will probably be cancelled due to us having no chance

In basketball, these are exactly the kind of games you want to play in non-conference. If we lose a close game, we'll get better and won't hurt us getting into tourney. If we win, it gives us a high quality win to build off of. As a fan, these games are far more exciting to me than playing a team that can't keep it competitive.

Just went to a breakfast at the tournament hotel where there was a question/answer session with reps of each team. (John Brady was our rep). When asked what was an upcoming challenge for Utah State, their rep said you need not look past today-LSU is still a work in progress, but they have quality players that will be tough to beat.

Team is finding its rhythm. They will cut back on the turn overs. Smart will score 20 and dish out 8. Tigers by 4.

Smart, 8 assists? Ok.
By far the most selfish player on the floor.

He and Watford need to get a hold of themselves in the turnover department. They’ve been abysmal.
Smart gritty and tough, sure, but doesn’t have the team first mentality needed from a successful PG.

Tall doesn't always equal good. shite, how many very tall guys has LSU had over the years who weren't big time players. Assuming Queta doesn't play, they only have 2 guys over 6'10" who have played noteworthy minutes. And those guys COMBINED have averaged 7 pts; 7 rebounds; and 2 blocks. Much of their production comes from guys who are between 6'5 and 6'7"

If they win tonight it will be because they play great team defense and efficiently cut up LSU's often inconsistent defense...not because they simply dumped it into the post and shot over LSU's undersized frontcourt

That's tall even for wide receivers. I would imagine most of them would be on the offensive line, tackles and guards. Possibly defensive tackle. That's just a lot of height for one team.

Really bad matchups for us. Will need to make 10/12 3’s to have a chance

You’re right. Sorry, I looked at Sports Action App and they have it as LSU -1.5. It’s the other way around.

I tend to agree that it is a bad matchup for LSU, but not because of the size. From a pure athletic standpoint LSU is the more talented team. However, USU is a veteran group that plays tough defense, is efficient on offense and can knock down some threes. Not that USU is even close to this good, but we saw what a veteran team who is efficient on both ends of the floor did to LSU when Michigan St. embarrassed LSU by getting any shot they wanted. If LSU is undisciplined on defense tonight USU is going to get countless open shots and unlike the UMBC's of the world, they won't miss the majority of them

The one advantage LSU does have is that they have multiple guys who can just flat beat you one on one. You can play great on ball defense on Smart. Doesn't matter. 7/10 times he going to beat you for a bucket. Watford has that ability as well and each game he gets a little more experienced. Mays lulls you to sleep then leave you saying "I didn't think he was that athletic". Williams just plays harder than everyone else.

For USU, the sum of the parts is greater than the individual pieces. It's the opposite for LSU. But the thing is, the individual pieces aren't going to get significantly better during a game. But they can come together during a game. If LSU can play connected basketball then there is not much USU can do to stop them. But if not, USU is apt to carve LSU up

Turnovers, 3 point efficiency, rim protection. If any of you guys enjoy odds I'd put money all day on Utah State covering this one no problem.
