Don't hear much about these guys, and they both seem to be in the middle of the depth chart at their positions. Does anyone have any feedback and/or opinions on whether or not these guys will become major contributors? They were both 24/7 4-star LBers coming out of HS.

My humble opinion is that we wont see much of them....not this year anyway.

We really only gonna play 2 LBers most of time... Clark, Bugg, Baskerville and likely Mike Jones are ahead of them... perhaps even Jared Small....

So thats not alot of PT left... but hopefully they stick around and improve and are our main guys in a year or two

Continue to learn this year and maybe 1 of them steps up next year. We actually have a lot of linebackers on the roster right now for essentially 2 spots and they are the young guys of the group when you consider Baskerville, Clark, Jones, Strong ahead of them in that respect. Coaches also like walk on Jared Small too.

If Jared Small starts, I have no expectations for any of the LBs behind him. That is just kind of depressing

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to come off as too pessimistic in the OP as I usually am.

You still have the greatest Avatar of all time. The style looks like an old-time photo you would see of a legendary coach from the 50's or 60's - maybe Woody or Bo.

Yeah the LB class of Webb, Sampath, white have let me down a bit. I really expected a lot on more from them then just BJ.

I really hope Webb shows out and is the guy we thought he was.

I think we need to give a pass to some of the 2020 freshman class.. especially the group that Pelini oversaw. Yes, some of the 2020 defenders played well (Eli & BJ specifically) ..but 2021 really should be considered as their freshman year.

Why do people expect freshman and sophs to step right in
and play. Most take time yo develop. If you look around
the college football world very few 1st or 2ndyr players
are great.

I hope Josh White is really good so we can have threads every 5 mins asking if he's Devin White's relative

They will both have solid years as backups unless forced into service and both should be ready to start next season.

DJ Welter couldn’t fill a gap or tackle for shite. Small was all over the field in the spring game making hits. I think he should be given a chance. You guys only care about stars and big names *pun intended*.

It’s not unprecedented for a walk on to become a great player. But in most cases, there is a reason the person is a walk on. Chances are the defense won’t be as good with a former walk on starting. Just like the defense wasn’t as good when Welter (not a WO I realize) started over White. Talent matters.

Perhaps Small will prove this wrong. History suggests otherwise.

Remember, we have had some darn good linebackers who took a while to see the field. Duke Riley, Deion Jones.
