Well, part of the article was about NFL teams picking one over the other. It's on topic.

Good to see that those kids decided that the thug life is not the way. Wish more would do for themselves.

Who else remembers being recruited in 8th grade?

Yeah I am calling BS that anyone said that to him too. Thought it? Yes. Said it to him? I doubt it. To be fair, the article did not actually go to specifically state that guys said someone said that to him. But it did imply it . Great read.

Well you and the scout are both stupid then. Did he not want to run the ball when he was carrying the team on his back, running 20-30 times a game on a bum ankle?

LF is a year older than his class, since he was a hold back, guice was not a hold back.

Agreed. But then Guice came out and implied all the whites at Catholic were TPOS Klan members basically

That's a cool assumption. If a white kid from a rich neighborhood goes to a mostly black school and then becomes a possible 10 ten pick, you think no one would talk/write about that? Really?

And who cares about this that much other than the "mad" CHS people? 1) It's BR; 99% of the country has already read it and moved on. 2) The other 1% who are upset now will forget this after the bowl game.

It was Hayes who was sensationalizing and implying.

Guice never hit me as the victim type until I read this story. I do believe part of the black culture is buying in to the fact that you are somehow oppressed by "the man" and that you have to be a victim. This is pushed by government and the liberal, progressive agenda.

Without CHS he would not be where he is today. I don't have any idea what a black person goes through around all white people but I do know that about 95,000 white people show up every Saturday to cheer him on and these white people have given him the opportunity that he has today.

All of these poor victims seem to be able to succeed when it comes to cashing in on all of these racist white people. What a joke...

Thanks for providing the link to his own words. Kudos to him for overcoming everything else. But it sounds like he has a distorted view and is grinding and axe based on a chip on shoulder. In short, that statement smells of playing the victim. If this were any regular Joe, the OT would rip it to shreds. With that being said, I can't imagine going through everything else he went through.

I originally thought so too. Then Guice doubled down yesterday and implied basically that the whites at Catholic treated him like shite

Yeah. If so many white rich kids hadn't called him a POS for that article where, literally, his only quote about Catholic was that it made him the man he is today, I doubt he would have felt the need to defend it.

Where the hell are people getting this impression?

Is it not plausible, even probably, that his experience changed from his freshman to junior/senior years? And that this article focused on the start where he and his friends had to transition?

Did he get special treatment? No doubt. But having been in private, catholic school all my life, I've seen 100 times more instances where the rich white kid gets away with breaking rules than the star black athlete.

Here's what I think. Hayes wrote an article with a perspective: the up and coming star had to deal with a lot of shite. So he paints a picture... a slightly inaccurate, implied picture... only focusing on Guice's first few months in HS. I don't think his mom was lying when she said he came home crying and wanted to leave. Do you? But because this author didn't want to go into Guice's junior/senior years which were much better to him, CHS alums lose their shite, blame Guice, and he takes to defending himself.

Truth is by next week this will be forgotten and we can move on to getting ready for baseball.

It's a black eye on a school with a great reputation. Catholic alumni work hard to maintain its reputation, by weeding out troublemakers and making sure that each has student is best prepared to make the next step in their life. This article shits on that and doesn't show what the school did to help Derrius, outside of showing that Catholic threatened to fire the "only" administrator to help him.

You didn't go to Catholic then, because rich white kids got expelled for way less shite than Derrius.

Yeah Catholic didn't really come off that bad initially. It mentioned some stuff early in his career there but it also talked about the coach helping him, said it was the best decision he could've made, and had quotes from him and his mom saying it turned him into the man he is today. I'm sure what happened is all the Catholic High ride or die's came out of the woodwork criticizing him and he just got defensive.

Or the Coach who brought him to practice/school every morning?

And many didn't.

Elementary, HS, and college at catholic schools. Then coached at one in the area for a couple years. I'm not making it up.
