Evolution of instant replay

When instant replay was first started in college and professional football, there was a lot of protest. It was taking the human element out of the game said it’s detractors.
It is still imperfect and it doesn’t end all controversies, but overall instant replay has made the game better. Bad calls end up getting corrected more, and you can see how officials can make mistakes in real time.
I don’t mind it slowing the game down to get it right. Watching and debating if the play will be confirmed, stand or be overturned has become part of the experience.
That said, the failure to call Patrick Peterson in bounds on a clear interception remains one of the worst abominations of replay ever.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind it being scaled back just a bit. The commercials are clearly the biggest issue but 4 hour games are atrocious.

The fact that they still make bullshite calls on plays like you mentioned that are obvious proves that replay is just another way for conferences to inforce their politics and influence outcomes.

Agree. That play was crucial. Recently the second fumble by aTm that was not called last week was pitiful and the announcers were talking about the pending reversal because the replay was so obvious and the "the call stands..."

I this year has been the year that replay became more concerned with reinforcing the play called than getting the play right. 'Progress'

Instant replay has no place in amateur sports.

That's normal when you play Bama.
