No. I raised hell about Gaines doing it. See above post. Caught a lot of shite from people who know dick about competition/sportsmanship.

I knew someone would bring up Gaines shooting a 3. Gaines did that when the shotclock was running.

If Arkansas dunked it like that with the shotclock running I wouldn't have cared.

It's not the same scenario.

Be honest, you would have done the same thing, right?

You have a chance to rub it in on a rival and you would let it pass?
When the game is already decided that is what you do!
And DO NOT mistake sportsmanship for weakness. You have to be a classy winner to be respected.
See Bird, Dr. J, Magic, Moses Malone, Olajuwon, Kareem, the Big O, Russell, West, Duncan, Ginobili, etc...

Maybe somebody could find this. I seem to remember Danny Ainge shooting a layup as time ran out once when Celtics had the game won and Bird and Dennis Johnson were in his face before the other team's guys could get to him.
Ring a bell, anybody?

This. Pussification of sports. Used to play to the buzzer in basketball regardless of score and no one said a damn thing.

Jesus, you couldn’t have it more arse backwards. Nowadays it’s just self absorbed shitheads who have to have televised signings to let you know where they are taking their talents to. And rather than respecting your opponent nowadays kids have to get theirs. Even if the game is long over.

I think you're missing an important point. The game has already been decided and is almost over. Shooting the ball in those situations is either about personal statistics or disrespecting the opponent. Again - the game is effectively over at this point.
Gaines wasn't going to get a turnover. Shot clock is a team turnover, not an individual turnover. He did the same kind of thing a few games before in almost the exact situation. He held/dribbled in one spot till the clock was going to run out with under 10 seconds left then passed the ball to Days with a couple seconds left on the clock so - presumably - he wouldn't get the Shot Clock turnover! bullshite move - nice teammate!
You stand there, hand the ball to the ref, they make the other team throw the ball in and when they do they just stand there for the last few seconds.

Their job is to score. Our job is to stop them.

Most of you corndogs are probably too young to remember but several years ago LSU came to Bud Walton and was up by double digits. They were so far ahead they put in their "managers" to end the game. With a few seconds left with Arkansas walking off the court some little white LSU punk made a layup (too small to dunk) with a second or two left. Give it a rest. What goes around comes around.

That’s crap to think u should stop playing & get a shot clock violation with 5 secs left. If those kids don’t want to play a full 40 mins then put in the end of the bench for the last 40 secs. Those kids will run up & down & play till the horn & be happy if they get in the scorebook. And if I could have, would have blocked that last dunk & sent him flying. Play the whole game. No one wants to see the last 30-40 secs dribbled meaninglessly.

I seriously doubt either LSU or Arkansas will win over two games in NCAA tournament.

Y’all are really whining like a bunch of bitches. It’s easy…one team played until the final buzzer and one didn’t. Why don’t you blame the team in purple and gold who quit and stop acting like a victim.

Toney slowed down, but when the defender gave up completely he then dunked it. Had the defender taken a few more steps to at least show the appearance of trying to play defense, Toney would have just dribbled it out.
