I think Etling will be the starting qb next season. We seem to forget that he was the backup (he was NOT the focus for offseason reps, etc), thrust into the starting lineup. He also had to work through a HC/OC change after 4 games.

DE will greatly benefit from an entire offseason with the returning players, their workouts/meetings, and Canada. He has the moxy and G2 to grasp an OFF gameplan, and keep the team moving in the right direction. Watching him lead the OFF compared to BH was night and day. I think the exp he gained from the Bama game will prove invaluable for this upcoming season. His play as the season concluded was very positive (TAM/LOU).

With that said, IF someone beats him out...heck they beat him out and we press ahead. I'm confident this staff will have the best qb on the field, capable of running our OFF and leading our Tigers.

if you watched the game, you will have noticed that Clemson's line did an excellent job of pass blocking. Alabama could not get to Watson in time with 4 guys, and had to rush 5 or even 6.

Watson took some hits after getting rid of the ball, and had some good runs down by the goal line, but it was his passing that beat Alabama. and his line gave him time.

etling didn't get a chance to throw with our line last year. IMHO he is plenty mobile enough.

i'll be surprised if he doesn't start next year, but with the new staff you can't count out any of the other qb's on the roster getting their shot.

My concern is that we have never seen him have any real success against good defenses. It was a breath of fresh air to see a QB in P&G that can hit wide open receivers. But when we needed to fit balls into tight windows against top defenses we were no better off than we have been for the last few years. Full and open competition is the only way forward. May the best man win.

You have to have a really good college QB to beat Bama. As of right now, we don't have one. I'm hoping Canada can make one of them great thru play calling and development. Etling has a low ceiling. He isn't great and doesn't have the overall talent. I don't think anyone should be considered the starter right now and I'm hopeful Canada will find his guy that can run his offense and that could be anyone of the 5 guys.

Sure. Let's just keep "pulling a Les" even though he is fired. Let's just pull the guy who is doing fine right before the big game. We all know that always ends with positive results.

So Etling should start every game, except Alabama. You aren't saying Harris or Scott should start against Alabama though.

So, what exactly are you saying?

Did you even think this through? We have a QB who is good enough to beat everybody else, but our back ups should beat Bama.

If our back up can beat Bama, then shouldn't he also be more than adequate to beat everybody else also?

We have a new coordinator coming in and our production with him at the helm was not good enough to beat good defenses. Not one good defense.
It isnt all his fault but he needs to compete. Period.

Oh i agree but a senior returning starter isnt gonna be unseated. It doesnt happen

I think he has the advantage for sure...but for the good of the team it would be best if he is at least pushed.

We wont beat alabama with etling unless Canada has some amazing game plan to work against the bama d. LSU needs the most athletic qb to perform his best against bama if we want to win

So let me get this straight. The plan is to start one QB...for the first 8 games...then start a guy who has never played a college snap (Scott) or a QB whose last action would have been 20 games ago (Harris) against the best opponent on LSU's schedule, on the road?

In 2011 Jefferson had started most of 2010. He had played in the 4 SEC games leading up to Bama. That's a bit different that just all of a sudden starting a guy who either has never played or hadn't seen game action in a long time.

Um....I think that is exactly what you are saying....

How can you blame the entire game on Etling? Sure he could have played better but so could our offensive line.

People are laughing at you because you are suggesting we have Scott start his first college game on the road against Alabama. Do you see how that could turn out badly?

We needed to score 11 points to win. We didnt need to put up 34 points like Clemson did. With this defense, better play calling and better blocking are the key to winning. Its not as simple as "etling lost last year so lets put in a fast black guy"

You forget that Etling has great pocket presense and is not a bad runner. I want us fo have a true qb competition this year, and who ever starts game one should start against bama
