I know this is Germans and this topic has been started a thousand times, but why the hell is ESPN still all over USC?

Seriously, I have heard them ask Herbstreit more questions of how USC can get into the title game, than questions about any of the top 5 teams.

Why do you really think this is? I know it doesn't matter, but it's still frustrating.

Viewership and Neilson Ratings. The Pac10 has nothing this year. Nothing. How can ESPN otherwise capture West Coast interest?

When I was a little kid, ESPN was all I watched.

Now I have resorted to the Rant and discovery channel for my entertainment.

The only time I watch ESPN is when my roommate has it on, or there is a football game on.

NC nailed it.... it's not about being objective in the news, it's about putting out news that accumulates ratings. Higher ratings = right price for ad time = money.

They have to do what they can do to keep viewer ratings up while the southeast and northeast and midwest have consistent viewer ratings (or better than the west coast). So they have to play along and keep them entertained. They even tried to change it up with UCLA one year, hyping them up only for them to be beat by a mediocre Tenn team.

It's a shame that it has to be this way, but just exercise your right to get better news by not depending on ESPN. That is what I have done. I know it's hard to get that on cable, but as far as internet goes there are much more objective sporting news sites than ESPN. Just have peace with media is money and it will not bother you as much.

Everything ESPN does has to do with ratings. Just like someone has already said, there is a reason why topics such as Red Sox, Yanks, T.O., Bonds, etc. get so much play on ESPN. People watch those segments and they know people do. USC is a huge draw nationally, for whatever reason, so they play to that audience. The U was in the same position 8 or 9 years ago when they were so good.

It's not really a "bias" in that the people that run ESPN love USC or anybody else. It's business, pure and simple.

Keep in mind the original meaning of the letters ESPN: Entertainment & Sports Programming Network. There's a reason why the "E" is first.
