1 vs 2
Don't you think the winner will have an advantage in recruiting for 2018?
The winner will be #1 for a few weeks. All that time, they are riding high.
The winner will have a shot to get into the CFP with one later loss and no conference championship.
I think polls influence the committee.

One thing you notice is the lack of LSU opponents on that list. Bama and Auburn are the only ones.
I've seen so many people over the last few months saying LSU has no chance to do well with "next year's schedule" and it completely baffles me. Yes, LSU plays Bama there. Yes, LSU plays 5 SEC road games, but are there any that really terrify you outside of Bama?
MSU may be better, but this isn't the 2014 team
Ole Miss lost their QB and other solid players from a team that had a losing season. Plus, they are in the early stages of becoming a train-wreck once again
Florida has benefited from being in an awful Eastern division, and while they've been good, I don't think they've been a "great" program under McElwain. They are losing a lot from a terrific defense and the recent recruiting seems to leave a lot to be desired.
Tenn. shot their wad this season. All the stars aligned, experience and as much talent as they've had in a while. In the end, the season was a giant dud which could have been worse had they not had a few miraculous finishes. Are they supposed to be BETTER next season? I don't see it.
Syracuse and BYU don't scare me. Auburn should be solid, but they haven't won in BR in nearly 20 years. There's no "short week" vs. A&M and Arkansas comes here.
On paper, in February, I don't see this as a murderer's row schedule at all.

Schlabaugh always ranks us lower than what we usually begin in preseason polls anyway.

Playing road games in the most talent rich conf in cfb is always hard

Sure, in a vacuum where you only look at each individual games (granted, that is how there played). But there is a significant cumulative effect when you play physical teams each week. There is also a psychological effect where you can never take a game off. Sure, we may be better than most teams, but getting 85 18-22 year olds to focus every single week for 12-15 weeks cannot be easy.

NSD is no reason at all to have a 5 place jump in preseason rankings...not even Fournette himself could justify that LSU team to jump up 5 places in preseason for his freshman year. It's all poppycock
