Why they could be here: LSU outplayed and outcoached Clemson in every phase of the game, and the former coaches and players on the selection committee will be particularly impressed with how well LSU played up front on both sides. A vastly improved running game, including from quarterback Sam Leavitt, plus a stifling defense and smart playcalling made the Tigers the total package.
Why they could be higher: Texas and Ohio State also earned lopsided home wins, but theirs came against Group of 6 opponents with more favorable weather conditions.
Toughest remaining game: Sept. 19 at Ole Miss. ESPN's FPI gives Lane Kiffin a 55.8% chance to beat his former team, but it's going to be an unforgiving, hostile environment when he returns for the first time since leaving the Rebels amid last season's playoff run to take the LSU job.
Need to know: The true value of the Week 1 win on Selection Day will depend on how Clemson fares the rest of the season. The matchup didn't amount to much last year after Clemson spiraled to a 7-6 finish. But if Clemson can rebound and put together a meaningful 2026 season, that can help LSU separate from contenders that didn't play as challenging of a nonconference lineup.

According to some in the Heather Dinich thread she is ugly so her opinions don't matter.

Ole Miss at 7 is a complete joke. They needed Louisville to make bonehead play after bonehead play to win the game.

Based on the eye test, I agree. But Louisville was ranked. It's so early in the year it doesn't really matter until after week 3

Post a picture of your wife/girlfriend so we can know if we should value your opinion.

She suddenly seems pro-LSU. Well, at least not as vehemently anti-LSU as before. What happened to her in Baton Rouge this weekend?

You sound like the OM fans. Lol. Louisville is ranked and very good. Clemson wasn't ra ked and Louisville is much better. Clemson was 23 in coaches poll Louisville was not ranked. Louisville was 24 in ap, Clemson was 26. They would rather say that than say their defense is absolute dog shite and offense a step back from kiffin.

Will not shock me at all if we move into the top 5 of polls. Love that’ll just rile up OM fans even more after how giddy they were they were ranked higher than LSU to start the year. That little stadium is going to be as much a powder keg it can be come next weekend
