The devil sold his soul to Les.

People have different measuring sticks for judging a coach and ours are clearly very different from one another. You look at overall victories, I look at actual championships. You would be content with 11-2 every year for the next 20 years. I just would not enjoy that. The season is not enjoyable for me at all without a championship. A terrible attitude, I know, because it results in disappointment 99% of the time.
Must really, really suck to not be able to find a scintilla of joy in the greatest era in LSU football history.
I honestly don't want to know how miserable and pissy you were pre-2000.

And it's not random, it's the result of all the predictable play calling that so many LSU fans hate in the first half. "Why do we keep trying to run the ball up the middle?" they ask, "If I know what play is coming next, you know the other team knows." Yet no one seems to want to put the two together. Miles is an old offensive lineman. He knows the game in the trenches. He figures if he has the talent on the line, he will have his boys punch your boys in the face for 45 minutes - and then your boys will fold. It happens over and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. Yet I still hear people asking "Why are we trying to run up the middle?" in the first half of games. I just keep replying, "It's so we CAN run up the middle in the 4th quarter." 22-21 when losing in the 4th makes perfect sense from this perspective.
Pimp.

For the record I'd take Les Miles over any other coach in the SEC. Especially saban, he's a snake in the grass only looking out for himself! How these recruits don't see it is beyond me.

Is this what goes on after work hours on the Rant? Holy crap I'm going back to the OT.
Thanks to OP for the thread though. Good perspectives until a few Rantards opened their laptops and whiskey and settled in the lazy boy

Apparently coaching isn't always about Xs and Os. Les has some kind of other magic.

My Favorite, on National TV with the whole Country watching, the Way MILE"s put it on Saban for the National Championship, and did it when it counted most. Saban was to embarrassed to show his face after Miles took it TO HIM, with an LSU team Myer called the most talented team he's ever seen. And Miles rubbed it in his face BY CROSSING THE 50 YARD LINE AT THE END OF THE GAME

Reading the lovefest in this thread, if I knew nothing about LSU I would think Miles had won multiple national championships in his 9 full seasons instead of one two-loss championship and an embarrassing defeat in a championship game. Just saying that the over-the-top lovefest doesn't exactly match up to the actual success.
you would also think he was great at preparation, player and game management and on the field discipline all the time. you would also not realize he should have 8 more wins on his overall record. all been laid out previously.

Every coach wins every game they "should have". Every one. Les sucks.
8 times we've lost games we "shouldn't have

It is a curse but nothing I can do about it. I turned 17 in 2000, so I did not really care pre-2000. I had two older brothers go out of state for college and my dad never once took me to an LSU game or really even discussed LSU with me. All of my dad's family is from Texas and no one in my mom's family cared one iota about football. I did not grow up an LSU fan. I became one when I attended the university for the first time in 2001.

Wow, so you don't even know about the shitty times of our program and you still aren't happy with this, the greatest era in our history. WOW.
Do you have any joy in life? Honest question.

LSU has done this my whole life. The problem is people think we are the only team with good players.

The people over the moon about the modern era are the ones constantly bringing up the shitty times. Having not been raised a fan during that time, I only have good times to compare it to. LSU won a national title within 3 years of me attending school and becoming a fan for the first time. So I only have excellence as my standard, which included 2 national titles and 4 SEC championships in my first 7 years of fandom.
Posted on 9/3/14 at 7:39 pm to LeonPhelps
Followed by 6 years of no national titles, 1 SEC title, and as many bowl losses as victories. Having been quite spoiled the first 7 years, the last 6 years have been rough.

LSU beats Fla and the great Urban Myers and Tebo and goes on to win the national title. None of which would've ever happened without Miles' ballsy play calling, going for it 4 or 5 times on 4th down. That's sick! Miles is probably the only coach in America with that capability. I don't care who's the coach, if they're playing against Les Miles, there's fear.
There's only two college coaches in America that would strike fear in opponents if they're matched up with in a playoff, Nick Saban and Les Miles! Tell me I'm lying!

Just 8!
You are settling for mediocrity.
If a coach doesn't win all the games, he is worthless.
Just like you.
