there are many interpretations to what that verse means. many people think it's referring to white POWs. but people will choose their own interpretation to fit whatever narrative they're pushing. whatever the case ITS NOT IN THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.

Or that doesn't count in your argument
no it doesn't count in any argument because it's an ignorant point

And? People here are not saying he should be arrested or forced to stand. They're calling him out for being an unpatriotic dumbass.

I wouldn't do it but I'm fine with Reid (Baton Rouge native) using his platform to bring attention something he sees as a worthy cause.

Still trying to figure this whole thing out...sitting or kneeling for being oppressed? HOW? They are making millions playing a GAME they love, in a country that bends over backwards for their arse...go figure...
Want to see OPPRESSED? Move to Africa, they are still living in grass huts and have to carry water jugs to their huts for cooking & drinking, & they don't even have an outhouse...
America, love it, or do like the movie stars and LEAVE it...
Just saying...I got rights, too...

taking a phrase out of context to match your narrative shows your level of ignorance. you prolly watch msnbc too

Thank god they took that out that would have made the song 35 seconds longer

So since the word slave is used it refers to black people. Maybe it means Americans as slaves to the crown

Then what is everyone upset about the action? Why are people equating it to being disrespectful to the miliary?
I agree that it would make more sense to open up a dialog, but perhaps they see it as a way to bring awareness to something that is a very difficult subject in our country.

The black power BS made me even more annoyed. Why do you have to bring up militant racism during the frickin anthem? Disrespectful.

What happens when the athletes in high school who sympathize with their cause suddenly says screw the SEC let's go to the swac? Then what?
Don't wake these people up because if you do we're screwed.

Ok, do you stand perfectly at attention? Do you correctly display flags when hanging them vertically? Do you take them down at night if they do not have a spotlight on them? Have you ever properly retired a tattered flag?
Doubtful.
There are guidelines to flag etiquette in our country, but there is no law that says he has to stand during the National Anthem.
The frick is your problem? Does Eric Reid have a right to intentionally kneel during the anthem as a sign of protest? Yes. Does everyone else have the right to call his form of protest bullshite and disrespectful? Attention whoring and effectively promoting false narratives? That it's stupid and pointless? Yes.
You're on some bullshite high horse bitching about people who are expressing their own political free will to reject people who shite on things they personally have great reverence for. So get over it and quit acting like you don't understand how they can legitimately be fed up with these athletes and their political demonstrations.

so the act has to be illegal to rub people the wrong way?

If you're so oppressed, then when are you going to go to the mother country? Go ahead and go back and live outside the land of the free and home of the brave. go ahead. we are all waiting on the oppressed to grow the heck up, pack your bags and move to the motherland. Quit living in your hypocrisy enjoying all that freedom and liberty have provided you at the cost of bloodshed and sacrifice while you complain of faux oppression that DOES NOT exist. go ahead, hypocrite. pack your bags. we're waiting...

Then what is everyone upset about the action?
Because they are seeking attention and don't actually care about any cause. Whatever it may be since that's never been articulated.

you'd have to be living under a rock to be unaware of what's been going on. this is just the "cool" thing to do right now and it's ignorant as hell.

And just like that LSU fans will turn on their own.
