I truly do not believe Ensminger will be the permanent OC. Coach O knows that he needs an offensive minded genius if he plans on doing any better than 9-3 next year. While many here think he is too dumb to consider that a possibility, I think it is overlooked that he chased Canada and Kiffin last year. Had he wanted to stay stagnant and keep Ensminger than it would’ve been done last year. Even when he sucked at Ole Miss he had Dan Werner as OC which is not a bad position to be in. I expect him to chase a big name and use Ensminger if all else fails. While I wouldn’t be surprised if Ensminger did end up as OC I would be hesitant to state he started as being ‘the guy’.

Edit: By Ensminger being temporary I mean that he will only be OC maybe until signing day is finished. Fingers crossed we sign a new OC before.

So a 3rd OC for his 3rd year? What a great plan.

ETA: The clown that downvoted this may as well go cheer for another team.

Then do what it takes to keep Canada. Hiring Ensminger as an interim would be embarrassing

What has Orgeron ever done to give you confidence in him? Serious question.

Well, this football program has been embarrassing for the last 3 years so hiring Ensminger would fit in with the norm.

For like, what, a half? Do you honestly feel we couldn't find a replacement before the '18 season?

you're fooling yourself.

you'll hear names like Freeze and Briles

and then we'll hire Steve, and O will talk about how he's an LSU guy

how much longer are you people going to buy Ed's snake oil?

I meant he would be interim for a short time until a new hire was signed. So ideally a new hire before signing day or shortly after.

I'm hearing Gruden coming as OC.

If not him, then it's Belichick.

ps - friend of mine is neighbors with Coach O family and his wife's cousin said it's true.

If you hire someone before 18’ what the frick is the point of giving Ensminger the title? That makes no sense

Could be expected. I'm sure this situation just didn't appear out of nowhere. If his choice is not Ensminger, O should have had plenty of time to get his choice on the line. But, judging from the massive nationwide search that gave us O, this might not be the case. O needs to realize that his future past 2018 rests on this choice. Hiring one his good ole baws might not be the best one, but would definitely be no surprise.

I believe Ensminger is nothing more than a decoy. Just like Grimes, I think Ed already has his new OC in agreement. He cannot afford to screw the pooch on this one. His and Joe’s careers are at stake.

This was Alleva's plan, but Orgeron was the if-all-else-fails fallback.

Orgeron made a mistake hiring (or pissing off) Canada. That's okay, folks make mistakes. It's when they add up and multiply that things fall apart. Signing a one and done kicker without realizing it would count against the 25 is another one.

Ultimately it's his results that matter. Orgeron could hire Verne Lundquist as OC, but if he goes on to make the playoffs he'll be a hero. All we can do from this vantage is note that it does not look good and hope for the best.
