John Emery had a chance and defender made a touchdown saving 1 on 1 tackle, then 2 minute "timeout". Then instead of running the ball and forcing them to call that 3rd timeout we have a motion to the flat to Anderson with Lacy all out blocking on the play and Nuss delays the throw and skips it. Could have been another big gain / TD. Then a bad fade. Run the ball and we give them the ball back with no TOs down 3 with about a min left. And even with what we did we had two plays that could have gone for 6 and didn't. Sick about the end of that drive.

The entire second half was a master class on how to lose a football game.

Honestly should have brought in the big package, gone UNDER CENTER, and picked up the yard on 4th an 1 after the botched hurry-up.

If we turn it over they score more quickly and we get the ball.

Lost? Wrong. Nuss literally signaled him to motion. He pointed at him and called for him. He then probably realized oh shite we have no time and I just moved the RB at the same time. How the QB doesn’t know that you can’t have two guys in motion at the same time is mind boggling. You have to take a TO there. Hell we ended the game with all 3…

With the conservative play calling in 2nd half, this board would be even more miserable now if we don't make it with runs there. The 2nd guessing on here is the norm.

Nuss deserves credit for a good game overall, but choked at the end of the game. The pass to Anderson, then a poor decision to throw it to Lacy on next play. Lacy was double covered and had Anderson open on opposite. The throw was to the right spot but proved too difficult for Lacy due to the good coverage. Clutch plays at the end of the drive by Nuss, Lacy, or Anderson (seemed confused on pass to him) and we are talking about different things today. We just were not good enough at crunch time.

He starts to motion then Nuss waves for him to stay there... he stops for a second then continues on .

Watched that TD saving tackle play on Emery again. Mason Taylor totally whiffed on blocking the DB who made the tackle. ANY interference from Taylor could have made a big difference.

This. He wasn't even looking for the ball. A perfect throw wouldn't have mattered.

This is completely false.

Anderson was staring at Nuss when Nuss threw the ball.

Nuss had plenty of time and just missed the throw.

I honestly think Nuss really wanted to go to Lacy, but Lacy got stuck on the rub and it messed Nuss up.

Are you seriously suggesting running the ball when LSU got their shite shoved in every single damn play running?

Running is what caused us to lose this game. If we open up the playbook, LSU wins that game fairly easily imo.

This makes no sense. We were down 3. If we run that play instead of pass to flats, we would likely not make first down as we got our shite shoved in entire game running. Especially that 3rd and 1 after pass to Pimpton.

We would settle for a FG if we ran. It'd then be tied. We would not be up 3. Need to pay attention better. It was 17 LSU 20 USC on that drive. We would've settled for 3. It would've then been tied. Even if we had a TD, it'd be LSU up 4. Your suggestion of LSU up 3 would be impossible after last drive.

USC would've gotten ball back with 1 min left and no T/O. Still extremely likely they score a FG even with no TO and 1 min left due to how bad our DBs played.

I also rewatched the last drive. Emery had a walk in touchdown right before 2 minute warning if Taylor puts in any kind of effort to block the one guy in the open field. It was like he had no idea what the play was.

Absolutely killed the game.

Shotgun handoff is the stupidest shite I have ever seen. Not only are you starting 6 yards behind LOS but it also takes 2 seconds to handoff. So basically 3rd and 1 becomes 3rd and 7 and the defense gets a 2 second head start.

QB sneak, direct RB snap work 95% of the time. Shotgun handoff works 20% of the time. That was atrocious coaching. I do not want to see this again the rest of this season or someone should get fired. I think someone deserves to get fired after this game.

Yep. Completely whiffed on the block.

That is a TD or at minimum, a 1st down, if he just gets in the way of the defender.

______________

You are right. We don't really know. We did not make enough plays at crunch time is all we really know.

LSU was LOSING 20-17 with 2:00. It was 2nd & 8 after the 2:00 TO. LSU had not been incredibly effective in running the ball most of the game. Scoring a go-ahead TD was much more paramount than forcing USC to use their final TO. Your scenario presumes LSU would have scored a TD had they run the ball on 2nd down. The more likely scenario is LSU would have been stopped short of the line to gain on 2nd down and USC would have called their final TO. LSU then would have faced a 3rd down from nearly the same spot (give or take a few yards). If incomplete, LSU kicks the tying FG and USC gets the ball back with pretty much the same amount of time they had when they actually got the ball back in the game. Notably, USC didn't use their final TO...so that really didn't matter.

The decision to pass on 2nd down was fine. LSU was trying to score the game winning TD. It was the EXECUTION that failed. Anderson was open. While not a certainty, it's likely with a good pass he at least picks up a first down (it would have been close). If he does, USC has no choice but to burn their final TO. LSU then could have run the ball on first down if they wanted, let the clock continue to run to under 1:00 and still have two shots at the endzone.

Are you thinking the game was tied on LSU's final drive?
