This could be on MSB, but ill leave it here since it just occured in the game.

It take about 5 minutes to complete the last minute of games that are within 10 points. And it is getting hard for me to watch the free throw contest.
My question is that should there be more intentional fouls called on the fouls teams make to create free throw attempts? For example, when Hickey was fouled before the ball was inbounded, how is that not intentional? No player was going for a steal, it was an intentional hold and everyone knows that. So why no intentional foul? It would speed the end of game up imo.

Somewhat agree. Games could literally never end if you foul before the ball is inbounded. Should be some punishment for that.

Yea fouling before the ball is inbounded is pretty BS. But all an official can do is make the call by the letter of the law.
They aren't supposed to change the way they officiate based on time and score, so if it wouldn't have been called intentional in the first minute it shouldn't in the last

What about the idea of a 10 second runoff in the final minute?

I don't like that, then you make it essentially impossible to come back if you're down by 4 inside 35 secs and they have the ball...

If anything referees should just be more willing to call obvious intentional fouls. If the guy doesn't go for the ball go ahead and call it

impeding a player from advancing up court(without the ball) is not an int. foul ,that foul is called a lot during the game .....but I agree maybe it should be in the last minute of the game...I don't think its fair no time runs off the clock...

Oh I was just talking about general end of game fouls, not the one tonight specifically

Better solution would be to limit the timeouts per team to one per 60 seconds. So, with 1:59 left you have a max of 2 timeouts per team. With 0:59 you have one timeout per team max, etc.

It isn't 1975 anymore. People foul at the end of games and have for 30 years.

It isn't a new problem. And it isn't getting worse.

It's the same as it has been since the 80s.

Or----Make the friggin free throws like we did tonight and you tend not to worry about being sent to the foul line. Hats off to Hickey for hitting 4-4 on pressure free throws with the game on the line. It is still a puzzle why he shoots 50% from the line.
Good win

I agree make the free throws and you dont have a problem. But its like there are two different games being played when you get inside a minute

How about fouling when you have a five point lead and the other team is in the double bonus inside 1:10.

I was talking with a buddy about this and I said that if a foul is committed before the ball is inbounded, there should be a 10 second clock run off similar to football (obviously only if you are losing).

One thing you could do is always give a team an option to forego free throws on a non-shooting foul and simply retain possession and in-bound the ball. That way if a team is down in the final minutes and they foul before the ball is inbounded, they simply charge a foul to the offending player and reset the ball. If a team does this twice in a row, technical foul.

That is not a bad idea. Something on the lines of that could work. Im not sold on the clock runoff.
