Elias Ricks expectations

I think Ricks will be All-SEC corner at SEC, no doubt about it, but I believe Derek Stingley’s success this season is leading people to expect Ricks to step right in and start. Just wanted to share a couple of my opinions.
1) Cardale Flott is a beast. He’s a future All-SEC corner, too. I’ve said it before, but Dave Aranda raved about Flott being the teams best cover corner for periods of time last season. His feet at the line of scrimmage are impressive and his ability to break on routes is Fulton-like. He’ll add weight this year and shore up his biggest weakness.
2) Fulton, Kevin Tolliver and Patrick Peterson are the last three 247 Sports composite 5-star corners to sign with LSU. Fulton rarely played important snaps as a freshman. Tolliver played a lot out of necessity and didn’t play very well. Pat Pete didn't start until the final four games of the season.
I think the expectations should be that Flott will be starting opposite of Stingley and Ricks will eventually work his way into the starting lineup with maybe Flott playing the nickel when the defense goes to 5 and 6 DB packages. The future is bright for DBU.

I can't help but to see Ricks starting opposite of Stingley

I agree Flott will most likely be the starer opposite Stingley. Ricks is going to be Raw. Stingley was obviously a different breed. I think Flott will put on another 10 lbs or so and really be a true SEC corner. He has the height to go with it.

Whoever the other corner and nickel back is better be ready because I don’t see a lot of balls being thrown in Stingley’s direction.

Flott's numbers were barely a drop off whenever he was put in.
That is pretty crazy. As far as talent goes we are absolutely loaded in the secondary.

Regardless if it is Flott or Ricks opposite Stingley, they will be picked on regularly since nobody will want to throw at Stingley. I expect Flott to be the breakout player of the year

In rotation. Hes got a lot of talent ahead of him. He will get some experience this year but the freshmen class of 19 was stellar at CB

I expect Ricks to be a starter with similar productivity to Stingley this year. I am the unreasonable LSU Football Fan.

Watch Raydarius Jones. Lot of word that he's they guy Raymond thinks has the most upside of the guys not named Stingley.
Agree though that we are loaded with talent at CB. I expect Ricks to play but he's got some guys ahead of him that are just better pure athletic talents than him. 5* or not he's not at the level of Flott, Ward and Jones in terms of pure, god given talent. See a lot of Jalen Mills in him, which is a compliment.

Flott did a heck of a good job for a freshman this year. The spot opposite Stingley is his to lose in my mind.
That said, ranters need to be ready for whoever is in that spot to be picked on, a lot because teams are not going to throw at Stingley.

Comparing Ricks to Stingley is just unfair...Stingley is by far the best CB we will have ever seen in P&G...Flott will be on the other side holding it down next year

I'm biased towards bigger corners so I think that's why I'd like to see Elias Ricks take over that role
Either way both of these guys are loaded with talent, the coaches will figure out a way to utilize it

To me Ricks = Fulton. He will start down the road and be great but he won't be a freshman starter.

I really like the way Flott played and so did the coaches. Early in the year I called him Greedy 2.0. However, Ricks is an early enrollee and having a spring under his belt will be big. I think it’ll be a close competition and however it ends up we are going to be very good at CB. The rich are getting richer.

Ricks is very good, but I could see him struggling to find PT with all the guys we can roll with at corner. He'll find his way into some snaps toward the end of the year I'd imagine. He's got outrageous potential with his length

This is 100% Flotts job. Aranda raved about him to let that young man know his time is coming soon. Him and Stingley holding it down is great for Ricks IMO because it’ll allow him to settle in with minimal pressure. CB is not a position manned by true freshmen, Stingley is an anomaly

Ricks is not college ready like Stingley was.
Being on campus in spring will help him.
I give the edge to Flott as well but even if he's the 3rd corner he will see the field a lot.

I see a lot of these threads talking about LSU DBs and who will play etc.. Every single one of these threads is over looking Raydar Jones. I think he’s gonna be a stud and it’s like everyone just forgets about him. Not everyone plays as a freshman and because he didn’t has zero indication of what he will be. I think he ends up being an all SEC type player also.

Too add to what I mentioned, Raydar is 6’2 and runs a 4.3 and had a 40inch vert. He’s got the size and the athleticism to get it done at a very high level and that’s what I expect from this guy.
