Miss State is the only ranked team that Alabama has played...and Miss State has only beaten one team with a winning record (Middle Tenn State at 5-3).

Meanwhile, LSU has played three ranked teams (Florida, South Carolina and Texas A&M), with two of them being on the road...we went 2-1.

Really hard to compare these two teams on paper, due to the major differences in their respective schedules to date.

Obviously, Alabama is a good team, but based on what?

This. This plus that's why they "play the game".

Alabama passes the "eyeball test", has racked up every #1 vote from the "human" element of the BCS ranking determination (2/3 of the vote) but has failed to grab the #1 vote of the (high and low out) "computer" element. Go figger.

Nuts4LSU, I understand your common opponents' opponents discussion - opponents' opponents is a viable component of the "computer" element of the BCS ranking.

I do find it hard to understand why the "human" element (almost every sportscaster on ESPN, CBSSports, FoxSports, et. al.) has supremely failed to point out that Alabama has posted their stats while they have played a "somewhat" inferior schedule to date. They have said that LSU has played a better schedule to date - I will give them that.

Yet, in the next breath these media pundits fawn over just how really great the Alabama defense and offense truly is (using defense and offense stats, of course) compared to LSU (and in some cases compared to the rest of the teams in the nation)...

Stats are relative to sample size. Also relative to sample population. That's why UFC, boxing, other individual sports are based on weight. That's why college football, et.al., high school football, et. al. is based on divisions (usually based mainly on # of students at the institution). I passed 5 Statistics courses (15 hours) in college. Statistics, damn statistics, and lies !

Here is what I hope I will add to the thread. The undefeated, #1 ranked Alabama team has played 5 SEC teams with SEC record to date of 8 - 15 (22 - 18 overall). LSU, meanwhile, has played 4 SEC teams with SEC record to date of 14 - 11 (21 - 12 overall).

LSU has played the tougher SEC teams thus far. BTW, Alabama still has to face the 0 - 6 SEC record Auburn (1 - 7 overall) - the team that kills LSU's overall SEC win-loss record to date.

Does this mean that I think Alabama will probably lose the game Saturday night? No. I will still root for LSU. I have picked them to win.

Still (and on top of that, ) I repeat I find it hard to deal with the fact that no media scribes refer to these facts. Eyeball test. Ha Ha. If LSU wins (that's why they "play the game") almost every media pundit will be wrong, wrong, wrong.

That's why I love LSU football.

Peej, I wasn't feeling very confident, but if you would just take the extra step and predict an Alabama win, all of us on this board would be eternally grateful.

The only way LSU beats Bama is to play their BEST game of the year and Bama plays their worst.

I mostly agree with this..... however, I don't think Alabama has to play their worst to lose....but LSU has to look a lot better and play as near to flawless as possible

No one wants to say Tennessee is a good team because Alabama destroyed them at their house, but they lost by 3 in a shootout with Carolina. As impressive as they looked against Uga, that's how bad they looked against Florida. On the cuff, lsu's victories are no more impressive than Alabama's, yet "bama hasn't played anyone"

oh ok so because USCe looked bad one week and good another week we are going to ignore the good week and focus on the bad week meaning we really didn't beat anyone ok I got it.

face it MSU has no impressive wins so far so you should have one that game all the other teams on your schedules are cake walk games

LSU has played Florida who they lost to and USCe who they beat. Both very good teams who could both beat bama in the SEC championship if they make it there. USCe has maybe the 3rd or 4th best D in the SEC, and we put up 400+ against them. We shut down the best overall running back in the conference who is now hurt.

USCe is a good team and can beat anyone on a good week. I'm very impressed with that win stop trying to play this win down.

I can agree on the schedule, but I just haven't seen Bama make many mistakes and they always capitalize on the other teams mistakes. I haven't seen them slack or get sloppy. LSU certainly can beat them, but my main worry is how disciplined and focused LSU can be the entire game.

the fact that we have crushed everyone we have played? If you can't see the basis of our hype, then you just don't get it.

Texas A&M would crush every team on your schedule. That argument is the Bama justification of their shitty schedule.

I'm not saying whose going to win this game, but to use the "we crushed everyone argument" when there's probably 10 other teams in the country that would do the same to those teams is ridiculous and par for the course for Bama fans.

LSU struggled with Towson and Auburn.

1 - This was early in the season and Towson was pumped unlike LSU

2 - Auburn hadn't totally given up at this pint in the season. The LSU game was a season changer for them

3 - We are looking a lot better on the oline than early in the season
