Exactly. Weird how every player comparison that O makes is to a former LSU player and many that he didn’t even coach. Smith reminds me of (looks up large successful defensive ends from LSU in the last decade). It’s as if he’s thinking “how can I appease and excite the simple minded fans during the off-season”.
Pretty much and people continue to be lead astray by this crap.

Anyway hopefully Maason is "that dude", because we haven't had a dominant DL since 2016. LSU used to be known for their DL before DBU became a household name.

you cant say someone reminds you of someone else if you didnt coach them?

I didn't say that. Maybe others have.

My point is Ed doesn't have a lot of credibility when it comes to these type comparisons.

Whatever, you guys are arguing about from the Brockers and Jackson days...this is what's coming up and all I care about...

I did a Defense Depth Chart. DL is deep and can be scary good with that starting DL with BJ Ojalari and Webb being rush specialists, and what a deal to have 5 year good players like Farrell and Logan off the bench!! For LB, 5 can play and a total of 6-7 can contribute. I'm going with 2 freshmen safeties because they are young and athletic and did not get raped like our 2020 unit. Let Hampton and Toles come off the bench and with the Freshmen starting will light a fire under their arse.

LSU 2021 Starting Defense

LDE Strong end- Ali Gaye 6'6" 280
DT Strong side- Jaquelin Roy 6'4" 310
DT Nose Guard- Mason Smith 6'6" 312
RDE Weak end- Andre Anthony 6'4" 260

Will LB- Mike Jones Jr. 6'0" 225
Mike LB- Navonteque Strong 6'2" 230
Sam LB- Damone Clark 6'3" 245, if a run team Baskerville

CB- Derek Stingley Jr. 6'1" 200
CB- Elias Ricks 6'2" 196
FS- Derrick Davis Jr. 6'1" 195 (Going with fresh. talent)
SS- Sage Ryan 5'11" 200

Second Team/Third Team

LDE Strong end- Bryce Langston/Jarell Cherry
DT Strong side- Neil Farrell Jr./Jacobian Guillory
DT Weak end- Glen Logan/Eric Taylor
RDE Weak End- BJ Ojulari (Rush specialist)/P. Webb

Will LB- Sampah/Z. Carter (LB before beefing up for DE)
Mike LB- Baskerville/White
Sam LB- Greg Penn III/Small

CB- Jay Ward/Flott
CB- McGlothern/Demarius McGhee (better than D. Evans)
FS- Toles/Cam Lewis
SS- Hampton Jr./Matthew Langlois

I remember him being regularly open but just couldn't catch or hold onto the ball. Theoretically Ed was right.
