Chad Jones is extremely overrated on this board. Everything you said about Adams I’d switch to Jones

Adams was wayyyy better than Chad.

Chad should have been a LB. He was too big. He was really good against the run though.

Yeah especially since he wasn't a safety for LSU

Reading comprehension is fundamental... I said as “just” a safety.. he lined up at safety multiple times. Obviously he wasn’t officially listed as a safety which speaks to his greatness.. he was positionless

TM7 is pound for pound the greatest(most impactful player) in LSU history ... the only other argument that could be made is Billy Cannon. You can’t catergorize him as just a safety the same way you couldn’t just catergorize LT as a linebacker.
the last 20 years MAYBE. It could be argued that one Matt Mauck had more impact on LSU football than anyone in the recent years.

With that said had he played more than 1.5 years, he could maybe considered a top 2 as far as dbs. Casanova’s name isn’t on the stadium for no reason dude. It wasnt a fluke the fact that he missed 1/2 his senor season and STILL MADE Aa. He was 6’2 202 lb corner. Yeah bigger than PP7.

there hasn't been a more impactful DB at LSU in decades

I called Delpit the best player on this defense before this season started. In my opinion he’s the best safety LSU has ever had, but Tommy Casanova might be right there with him. There is no way in the world he is as good, or as impactful, as Patrick Peterson or Mathieu. And he will never be. As great as Delpit is these guys are all by themselves.

Jones had more game changing plays than Adams. I’m still shocked how Adams got drafted so high. Adams was good but he wasn’t a game changer.

You’re joking right? And at first I was just speaking to on the field impact, let alone the off the field impact in terms of young middle school and high schoolers who saw him as the coolest football player because of his swagger especially in the social media era. But just on the field, he did things at LSU regularly we really haven’t seen before or since in that magnitude

Brandon Taylor is better than half that list.

Adams was only good against the run.

What? No. He almost completely blew the BCS championship game for us.

He was very good his last year but his career as a whole doesn’t hold up to the others imo

TM7 was a game changer in ways I've never seen another safety be capable of.
This may not make sense. I would agree with Clark. Mathieu was a Nickle back / hybrid. Totally dif positions. I would venture to say Mathieu is the best gamer ever at lsu regardless of positing. I think delpit and Landry are best safeties over seen at lsu. I would also say Webster and peterson were best cornerbacks.
Mathieu was best defensive back ever at lsu. But not the best cornerback or safety imo.

Mathieu played safety for one game at LSU. He was a cornerback/nickel back the other times he took the field. I wouldn’t put him in the safety debate

I agree with someone else who said we're splitting hairs.

Delpits's role on this team is essentially identical to Mathieu's. Call them what you want, but they're filling the same roles.

TM was incredible. But hard to say he was better than peterson as a def back imo. Without question Peterson was better in coverage, TM got beat a lot more. TM was the most incredible big play maker I have ever seen on the defensive side of the ball. So just depends on what you consider better.

I considered Taylor but I dont think he'd start over any of those guys if they were on the same team.

Mathieu held his own in coverage, he just had trouble bodying up a big player. He wasn't getting burnt though.

ETA - I mean PP7 was better in coverage, but Mathieu was solid.

Clarence leblanc would start over him? Is the other team running a goalline offense? John Curtis Homer.
