Personally I think delpit is damn near on the level of TM7, but they are completely different players. I personally feel delpit is much better than Adams. Not saying Adams is not a beast. Just that delpit is better than him. If delpit keeps on his current track (let alone get better his JR year) he is a top 3 pick, this is obviously dependent on what is needed first in the draft. At worst he is the first safety taken. And in my opinion he is the best player to wear purple and gold on defense since TM7 and maybe

The legend of Chad Jones overrates his play on the field big time. He was good but playing baseball made him fat and he was too big after 2008. He had some huge plays but if we’re ranking safeties he’s no where near the top.
Brandon Taylor is criminally underrated. When he went down at the end of 2010 the defense suffered majorly.

would also say Webster and peterson were best cornerbacks.
Mathieu was best defensive back ever at lsu. But not the best cornerback or safety imo.
Tommy Casanova says hello!

I mean, Delpit is only a sophomore and already listed among truly elite safeties.
Mathieu wasn't really a safety, but was a hybrid and talent the likes of which LSU fans may never see again. He wasn't the biggest, strongest or fastest, but his football instincts are truly unique. He deserves his own spot on this list.
Adams
Landry
Reid
Jones
Clark
Delpit
Then, to a lesser degree, you've got guys like Steltz/Taylor type safeties who were as solid as you can hope for and got more than their cup of coffee in the NFL.
The list goes on and on as well. Getting butthurt because Delpit may not be at the top of someone's list when talking about safeties at LSU is really odd.
**Edited to add a few names. There are so many that deserve to be considered.

Take TM special teams away and He’s not “as” great as some make him out to be. As a play maker on defense Delpit is nearly equal to TM.
That said TM was THE best football player I’ve ever seen play at LSU(1980-present) Wish we would have had him for more than 2 years.

quote:. I made that argument, but Tommy didn’t play safety press. He was a corner at LSU. However, in those days because teams were so run heavy, he was like a hybrid safety/backer.
There’s a retired #37 in the lore of LSU Football for a reason...for those of us old enough were fortunate to watch Tommy Casanova. Depict reminds me a lot of Casanova. He also was an electric punt returner. Any list of top 5 safeties have to include him near the top of the list.
