this is what happened to the best of my knowledge

Frank retiers

Linda has a change of title to director of TIGER band

this title change was as she said in her email to lessen fears of the AD

Director of TIGER Band, not Director of Bands

and yes you are a moron

For those of you who don't understand....

Frank Wickes retired as "Director of Bands"

They started looking for a replacement.

During this time Dr. Moorhouse's title was changed from assistant Director to "Director of Tiger Band". The reason they did this was to allow her full control over the Tiger band no matter who was hired as "Director of bands". It was not a promotion, rather it was a slap in the face saying.... "We aren't going to give you the director title, but we will allow you to keep doing what you are doing without any interference from a new hire".

After this the person the music school planned on hiring turned down the job, and there was no "Director of Bands"

Dr. Moorhouse did not receiver an offer as one of the top candidates to lead the position. However, even if she had, she would have lost control of the band due to the new "title" her position had been given.

She got an offer from U of I

She's leaving LSU because they won't let her progress her career even though she is over qualified.

I'm fired up at the possibility of Roy leading the Tiger Band. Those kids are going to have some fun

exactly

and furthermore anyone who knows anything about Tiger band knows she has been the Director of Tiger Band without the title for years. FBW hasnt had the time or the energy to be much more than a figure head with TGBFTL for a very long time

Hell she picked the show themes, coordinated the musical arrangements and wrote all of the drill for the shows when I was in the band 20 yrs ago

basically. Roy would write maybe one or two a year and a grad assistant would write one here and there if they needed one for a resume'.

Very sorry to see her go. Hope we can keep the continuity. Wonder if we could get the LSU guy who is the band director at Auburn to come home.

It changes a lot... Wickes was still technically the "head of the band" and his position had control to do whatever he wanted. However he let her do her thing.

With that said, in order to entice her to stay, they changed her job description to give the "assistant director" full control of the marching band. This ensured that she could run the Tiger Band no matter who was hired, while at the same time, not allowing her to move up and still have control of the marching band due to knew job descriptions.

i think that happened before that all went down, there wasn't much LSU could do to keep her here

Thats what I was saying. Since they did that before they started the search they lost her there. They pretty much put her in a position to choose the Marching Band or the "Director of Bands" but not both. It all came down to the administration being full of shite.

being at one of the top marching band programs in the country a job like director of bands is something alot of highly talented people would want. So even though it would seem like it would be idol for Linda to take the job she would still have to out qualify the others who where also trying for the job.

I also heard she didn't put to much effort into applying for the position maybe she didn't want it, not real sure.

reveille article was kinda BS the search was still on for the next band director and all of a sudden the reveille is saying that Morehouse is the next director.

Reveille doesn't know how to report on the band. First they said Roy had gotten a termination notice because of the budget cuts, when he never did. Then they also said Tiger Band would be reducing membership because of the budget cuts, which I believe isn't happening. Never trust the Reveille when they report on the band

That's a very interesting thought. He ran a practice or two last year and we were out before 5 both times, although one of those times was the Thursday before the Washington game

Or just don't trust The Reville period. If it wasn't for the crossword and the sudoku no one would ever pick the thing up.

She isn't qualified?

quote:

Dr. Moorhouse is a past recipient of LSU's Tiger Athletic FoundationPresident's Award, a campus-wide award for teaching excellence, in addition to the School of Music Excellence in Teaching Award. Outside LSU, she has been recognized by the John Philip Sousa Foundation with the Sudler Order of Merit, is a Member Laureate of Sigma Alpha Iota, and has received the Silver Baton and Golden Rose awards from the Women Band Directors International. Honored by the National Band Association with the Citation of Excellence, she has received the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Bandmaster Award for Louisiana, and has been recognized by Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Her biography will be included in the upcoming edition of the New Grove Dictionary of American Music and the Grove Music Online edition.

Off campus, Dr. Moorhouse maintains an active schedule having appeared as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States, and in Japan, Western Europe and Canada. An elected member of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association, she serves as a Past President and Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the National Band Association. Dr. Moorhouse also serves on the Sudler Trophy Committee of the John Philip Sousa Foundation, and is a member of CBDNA and Phi Beta Mu.

Dr. Moorhouse has served as a contributing author for five volumes of the Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series (GIA Publications). She is also a contributing author for three books: A Composer's Insight–-Thoughts, Analysis and Commentary on Contemporary Masterpieces for Wind Band (Volumes 2 and 3, Meredith Music), and The Music Directors Cookbook (Meredith Music). In addition, she is editor of The NBA Journal, official journal of the National Band Association.
Dr. Moorhouse received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Florida, a Master of Music Education from LSU, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Washington.

And on top of that, why would she put effort into applying for the position? The administration changed the structure before hand so the "Director of Bands" had no say whatsoever with the Marching band. The only person who did was whoever took over her position. She deserved the whole cake, but was only given the option to choose the icing or the batter.
