Which is worse?

Shitty tips or waiters posting pics of receipts receiving shitty tips?

The major problem with the restaurants paying the servers more is that the restaurants simply can’t afford it.

The result would not be higher prices on food. It would lead to virtually zero sit down restaurants. Except expensive ones like Ruth Chris that aren’t as accessible.

The expenses of a restaurant are INSANE. Not to mention no bank wants to give a potential restaurant owner a loan because they are already likely to fail. No bank would invest in a restaurant tipping waiters 10/table/hour. And no entrepreneur would open restaurants knowing there is no economic benefit.

Your tipping habits are just that. Yours . No one is obligated to tip. Whatever tip you receive, be thankful. The criticism should be focused on these greedy owners paying slave wages. And I consider myself a good tipper. The rest of the civilized world doesn’t have this issue because people are paid a livable wage.

The owners aren’t all greedy. A single restaurant does not bring in as much money as you think.

Not to mention they are taking a HUGE risk in opening the restaurant in the first place. If they are one of the few successful restaurants they need a return on their investment.

Doesn’t matter. No one is obligated to tip at all. I always do, but i’ve Seen several shameful displays by restaurant staff after not receiving the tip amount thought they deserved. Every time this was in Nola.

She received a tip and should be appreciative. We aren’t obligated to tip. Her boss shouldn’t be paying his staff slave wages. This crap only happens in this insane country.

It's also why in the most of those parts of the world you get shittier service by comparison, their pay is guaranteed.

Keep in mind, while serving minimum wage is $2.13/hr, with tips they still have to make the equivalent of federal minimum wage which is $7.25/hr, so it's not like if they get no tips for a week they are only going to get $2.13/hr x hrs for that week of work. Employer has to make up the difference to get them to $7.25/hr. It's not like waiters get LESS than federal minimum wage. I've never known any waiter to make the equivalent of federal minimum wage either, most of them make well above that, assuming full time job, because tips put them way over.

Yes it sucks when people tip crappy, but the other side to this story is paying federal minimum wage which MOST wait staff would absolutely hate. It's not like restaurant owners are going to pay double minimum wage for their wait staff.

It does matter. The current economics matter.

Regardless of how you think the country should be the country is the way it is right now. Until it changes tipping is a moral obligation.

Yes, people do have the right to tip what they damn well please, but there are very few reasons to tip less than 10% on a ticket.

Maybe, and quite likely, is that he is mentally challenged and $5.00 seemed legit to him.

He’s not obligated to leave a tip. He did. Be thankful and move on. There’s lots of suckers out there leaving 30,40,50% tips they can’t afford.

I am long removed from my waiting tables days, and at that time I was thankful for what I got.

However, I will not sit here and “move on” when someone is ignorant of how the food service industry works in this country and you are sitting here justifying his actions like he did the right thing.

Do I think Donte is trash? Not at all. The most likely situation is he had no idea, and the waiter is an arse for posting the receipt. HOWEVER, Donte should have tipped more than five dollars unless the waiter brought his food out cold or told him to shove it mid meal. That’s a fact if the current economic climate.

Dontre has friends, your friend is a waiter there ONLY to deliver services. He doesnt need more friends! Get it?
