Is Beloso a day one starter at 1st base?

Also, is the left side of the IF set or is Smith at SS still a possibility?

I think he ends up at 1B long term

I think he and Willis will be battling for that in the next few weeks assuming Garza is locked in at DH.

Bianco just a body there because of need or is a permanent move an actual possibility?

Somewhere in between just a body and permanent move. He could play there and do well, but once guys heal up and we get another recruiting class in (currently 3 catchers committed) he won't need to play there.

I think it will be more rotational, but he's one of the guys that will play a lot there.

I'm sure you'll answer all these questions in your annual baseball preview, but do you think he starts over Beloso?

Edit: Sorry, I was typing this as you were responding

Smith at SS is a certainty.

I'll give my best guess but that position is not set in stone at all right now.

Well I was way off then. I nailed the OF though!

I would never predict a college baseball team to have a record like that even if I think they are the best team in the country and are the favorite to win the national title. It's too easy to lose games in baseball. And you have to have a considerable amount of bounces go your way to achieve a record like that. Also, frankly, the regular season record isn't that important so often times many decisions are made throughout the season that aren't even in the best interest of winning as many regular season games as possible.

No idea why people sleep on Broussard. He was our most consistent hitter before getting hurt. Solid contact guy. Pretty good defense.

Curious about Bianco. Does he still get a look at 3B? Or do they "save" him to have him focus on Catching so that we have a ready backup in case Mathis struggles or gets injured. He'll most certainly need a break.

Then comes Hal who is going to make a KRob/Stevenson type offensive jump. He may not break 0.300, but a 250-280 average with his defensive skills is a starter. Period. Especially with all of the other offensive players we can surround him with.

This brings the only "question" down to 1B and DH. Those two spots will be on a rotation for a while imo.

As far as the pitching, no one has a good handle on it beyond the first line guys. Just too many injuries.

Rotation:

Hess
Marceaux
Walker

Setup:

Fontenot

Closer:

Peterson

But how is Gilbert? Beck? Hilliard? Henry? Hill? The health of these guys and maybe a few others will determine this season.

The biggest question mark I have is what order will the top four in the lineup hit

Watson
Smith
Duplantis
Cabrera

If Hal is hitting around 250 then that justifies him being in the lineup and having a great defensive shortstop. Like you said you will probably surround him with some quality bats and can hide him in the 8 spot and be alright.

Traditionally speaking, Dup would be your 2 and Cabrera your 3. Dup is a RBI machine, especially when he's protected, so you're probably right.

Talent wise they could do it. Will depends on how quickly the pitching comes together. Lot of guys on this staff have “wow” stuff.

My guess:

Smith
Duplantis
Cabrera
Watson

As much as I think Dup should be leadoff, that's just not where PM wants him. I understand the thinking. He's our best contact hitter and puts balls in play which means hit and runs (I'm preparing myself for my first H&R melt of the season) and rbis. But I want the guy getting on base most with the threat to bunt and steal to be the leadoff. It puts immediate pressure on the defense and pitcher.

Do mid-week games count or nah? I need to know before I can form an opinion.
