The limited outings part is exactly why we have no idea if he has shown improvement.

I agree on limited but in each one I saw increased velocity..yeah he have up 1 hr but he's got 7 so / 0 b/ 1 er.. 2 h... just looking a little better than the train wreck I couldn't stand to see trot out there every single time last yr, trust me. I'm just pulling for improvement from others especially after losing grant earlier.

Edit to say only 3 innings though..... hopefully it's a while before we get tested that deep but its a nice thought

Shores should be your number 2 by the playoffs.

If shores is the # 2 by postseason play something bad has gone off script. Hell he might not even be the # 2 next year let’s be honest here

Well that’s just flat out false

No it's not. If you take 3 weekend starters out, that's where they are.

We are talking 4 and 5 innings pitched for both, in a 16 game season. Dutton, Collins, Herring, Bucknam are the only pitchers with fewer innings, but have the same (or more) outings. They are way down the pecking order, and both will get smashed by SEC hitting if they face it often.

Your takes have gotten pretty awful lately.

He has number 2 stuff and Wes Johnson will have all that in “real situation” stuff to get him there. It’ll be Brett Laxtonish. Wes Johnson is a damn good coach and I think people are underestimating what he will do with Shores.

4 guys we're sure of out of the pen isn't as deep as you think

Agreed. The idea that we need to develop Shores in midweeks, to have him as a starter in the postseason doesn't make sense to me. You only need a 4th starter if you fall into the losers bracket, or if needed game in a regional. And if that's the case, you are in a dog fight in previous games, are you not using one of your better pitchers in those games to try to win them? So there is no guarantee he isn't used. Don't need 4 in a super, and the CWS is pretty spaced out to where you don't need 4.

Then the idea that we would hold Shores, assuming he is top 3-4 out of the pen, on a weekend against Tennessee, to make sure we beat a SWAC school doesn't make sense to me either.

What about Wes Johnson getting Hurd or Floyd ready? Is he just going to ignore those two and focus on Shores?

Shores will get some work against uno and you have him ready for weekend with that type arm talent
On a Sunday in relief when pitching is at a premium not many teams can send out a upper 90s fastball
The good thing is lsu has options this season

That’s obvious to anyone that follows CBB & in no way did anybody make the claim that its ok to take an ‘L’ in an SEC game in order to beat a midweek SWAC team.

Like ‘CottonWasKing’ pointed out earlier in this thread - IF they need Shores outta the pen during an SEC Series you bring him in, regardless of his midweek assignment.

Midweek starter to continue in that starting role and keeping his innings up. Needs to develop his secondary pitches more and will get plenty of opportunities in that role.

Bumping this to further backup my point that we shouldn't be expecting anyone in the midweek to go more than 3 innings.

We will know more about Shores development based on if and how he is used on the weekends than the midweek.

I think he has a lot of raw talent. But having a 99+ fastball helps. If anybody could get the most out of him it will be wes Johnson. Never know. Could develop into a Friday or Saturday starter next year.

Jay admitted on Monday that Shores was going to come in on Sunday for a 2inning save. Obviously that got blown up. But Shores is going to be available out of the pen in SEC games. There is no question about it

Shores definitely needs some refinement. His release point and uncoiling that long body takes some time. Just the optics of watching both, more impressed with Edwards at this point, in a pinch, just going to need Shores at some point to put it together..

I don’t think you can start him on weekends now. He’s got great stuff, but the controls just not there right now.

more impressed with Edwards at this point

Edwards was impressive last night. Seemed like he was hitting his spots nearly every time where Shores again looked a tad erratic, as far as pitch control & also hitting his spots.

Im nowhere close to being a baseball expert so ill ask others: How many different ‘pitches’ does Edwards throw normally (Shores too?)?
