Does Shep REALLY Not Know the Playbook?

or is his lack of use more so due to the stubborness that Les Miles showed last year with the QB situation?

I'm not saying Shep is the definite answer right now or anything, but not trying him at least once last night when nothing was working was pathetic. Furthermore, having him not attempt a pass 6 games into the season is disturbing. The guy has been here since January, but he's either:

A. Not talented/developed enough to throw a pass (on the coaches)
B. Not being given a chance (on the coaches)

I know it sucks balls to continuously change the QB situation, but trying some new things on offense should be the coaches' first priority.

Doesn't matter. Shep could have accidentally played better than JJ did last night.

The wrong play and/or set was sent from the sidelines to Shep twice in the UGA game.

Hell, at this point, all he has to do is run 2 or 3 different sets! What have we done thus far that is so confusing? I don't get it either. But, we ain't on the sideline and don't get a vote....

No.

Shep is a guy who has "works is arse off to be PREPARED" better than probably anyone else we have on the team.

I don't for a second believe that Shep does not "know" enough to play right now.

Now, experience, repetition, physical development... yes, I can see that, but that is the same for ALL freshmen coming into college with VERY FEW exceptions (we have one... Peterson).

However, Sheps raw skills are enough that he should be getting chances to make a difference.

I just hate it that LSU doesn't do shite with these talented freshmen. When the team is humming along well, sure, sit the freshmen. When the offense is gaining 162 yards in four quarters, change the fricking lineup a little bit.

It's not like JJ is some grizzled 5th year senior or anything; he's just a 19 year old. He can be replaced just like Lee was replaced. (not that I'm suggesting he be replaced yet)

Shep is supposed to be better than Tate Forcier. Seems to be working out for Michigan...

Shep could take a snap in shotgun, kneel down for a five yard loss and it would be less frustrating than watching Jefferson's consistently dropping back 8 yards for the inevitable sack.

I just don't understand why Shep doesn't get on the field. What's his avg YPC - 7? I really thought we would see his first pass last night - not his ability to ride the bench. I'm just so disappointed

I think it comes down to the fact that our coach is a terrible manager of talent and game situations. It really makes me mad, because I know Shep expected to see more playing time than this. Those who know what negative recruiting is, LSU is going to have a shitload of it thrown at them by other coaches to high school seniors.

If nothing else, does Miles not understand how excited the crowd gets when Shep takes the field? The crowd was rocking last night, but when we couldn't get a play called 3 straight times to end the 3rd quarter, fans became restless.

It would have been a great time to send Shep back in to create some excitement.

Alex,

You're right. If you're a negative recruiting against the Tigers, you have a number of directions to go...

Shep knew enough of the playbook to give the D fits in the Spring Game. Shep also wore a full contact jersey at QB in that game.

Shep should be playing more...If he's not going to play- Why did Miles Burn his Redshirt?

Shep could take a sack as well as JJ can, could throw a pick as well as JLee...so where is the downside in trying to improve the offense?

I guess Miles could wait until we are DEAD LAST in Offense and not just the bottom ten or so to give Shep some touches.

I dont see any reason Miles and Co. can justify not putting in R. Shep. Im not saying he is the answer to all our problems, but I find a hard time justifying leaving him on the sidelines.

On a night where the offense struggled and needed a change of pace, RS can provide that. Even if he's just on the field as a decoy.

Furthermore, even without putting RS on the field, why the lack of misdirection plays. Florida didnt mind using them against us (though I understand that is the nature of their offense). LSU should have tried a few wrinkles.

The Oline still needs help, Jefferson still needs to get rid of the ball sooner. The coaches still need to call the right routes for our WR to give JJ some kind of hot route or checkdown. I was most diappointed with the penalties and the play calling. It was a great effort by our D, but too many penalties here as well. We are still a good team and still have opportunity to improve. It was a much better effort than last year. I didnt expect to win this game, most fans probly felt we could win, but realistically they probly felt this was a game we could/would lose.

As a fan of CFB I want to see players like him on the field....so I hope these guys go somewhere to utilize their talent, if it is LSU so be it, if not who can blame them.

THANK YOU

I do not understand everyone's undying loyalty to JJ. Don't get me wrong, he is a great athlete and all... But he is a true sophomore, its not like he is some kind of hardened vet.

With that being said, I would love to see JJ come out and play lights out the rest of this season. However, the likelihood of that is not very good and if he continues to play at this mediocre level, than the coaches need to do their jobs and THINK about making a change. But it is too soon for that...
