re: Does not wanting CEO as the head coach make me a bad LSU fan?

So if O takes a 2 loss LSU team with no offensive production and still manages to coach them up to an SEC championship, then he is still unproven?
Unproven from the standpoint of building and maintaining a program at this level. Miles has maintained an elite program, he was just too scared to take the governor off the gas pedal on offense. Otherwise, how could a TE coach that was lucky to even have a job lead the offense to an all-time conference high in total yards 6 days after taking over. Coach O is absolutely the right guy to have taken over. The question is what will the program look like in 5 years if it's turned over to him. The team's record the rest of the season won't really give us any indication of that.
With that said, if he wins out and wins the SECCG, you pretty much have to give him the job.

Coach O is the only coach that every other SEC team is hoping we end up with. I wonder why? Surely they must have our best interest in mind right?

That's one hell of a fallacy
You're comparing an accomplish that hasn't been made yet versus one aspect of Hermans career

Would you still feel this way if he ran the table or suffered just 1 loss. Probably not? Lets just ride it out and see!
Yes of course. If you can hire a Herman or Jimbo top level guy you do. That's bad AD work if he gives to job to O based on 7 wins. His overall hc resume is too bad for him to be hired over one of those guys.

It's amazing people think we have to have an X's and O's Offensive-minded HC. There are a ton of great offenses in college football with blossoming OC's just like Herman did.
Many people want a new HC and pay him 7 million a year. Think he's gonna want a raise if he wins a ship? What about his assistants? Could we afford to hire good assistants? I hope we do not reach for Herman. If he came here, I'd be excited about as well, but not if it means giving the cow and the milk away.

We have the highest paid coaching staff in the country. Of course we can hire good assistants.

It's not as if we aren't making money. There isn't any point in holding back.

"had"
LSU tends to like to reset back a bit when they make a coaching change. If O continues to do well, there will be some resistance to opening up the checkbook.

Well regardless, it is not as if we've been miserly with assistant money, going all the way back to Saban.

This is his audition. If he wins 6 or more games in his audition, we would honestly be hard pressed to do better. There aren't many coaches who can do that.
Just sit back and enjoy the ride, bruh.

Coach O is a great guy with an infectious down home charm. But as a Tiger fan, we are entitled to want whomever we think is the best fit. Good post

Dude, this is our fans you're speaking to. As soon as Coach O loses a game, all of that Cajun and "he's one of us" shite will be thrown out of the window. He'll be crucified and folks will deny ever wanting him to be hired as the permanent coach. Watch and see.
And you're just thinking with your mind, instead of your heart.

idk, I feel like they'll claim it's just one of the 4ish games he's allowed to lose since he's only the interim and doesn't have his system in place yet.

So someone points out a loss to Navy and I point out an even worse loss by Coach O and all of a sudden that makes me intolerant? Coach O's only actual experience as a HC got him a 3-21 record. In 3 full years as a HC and 2 interim positions he has less wins than Tom Herman in 1.5 years. But sure, let's give this dude the keys to the castle.
I like this dude! You go hard! LMBO

More like "thanks for doing what you do best. Sorry you aren't qualified for this job, but we'd love to keep you as assistant HC and recruiting coordinator, and of course you are free to pursue other head coaching opportunities to prove us wrong"
My goodness. I'm not the only one!!

What is it about Tom Herman that has some people so convinced he is the greatest coach around?
The man has coached a total of 20 games at the mid-major level. 14 of his wins are over the likes of Tulane, SMU, Texas State, etc. Hardly, an impressive list especially when you realize that Herman just lost to Navy. Even his win over OU is not that big now that we see OU has lost a couple of games. Yet some of you think that success at that level translates into success in the SEC. It doesn't.

No.
The goal should be to hire the best available candidate. Maybe that's O and maybe it's not.
What we don't know is what kind of vision he has for the program. Does he envision sticking with Ensminger as OC or does he plan to find the brightest up and coming OC?
How will his recruiting strategy differ from Miles?
How does he discipline players? (I like that he sat some folks this weekend for lack of preparation. (The bench is a great motivator).
How well does he game plan?
We know O can recruit. We know he has apparently changed his approach to being a head coach. We don't know how he handles adversity. Is he knee-jerk?
We just have to let it play out.
Alleva may be the guy making the list but you can bet there is an inner circle that will be involved. He is smart right now to keep it as close to the vest as possible. He doesn't need another loose cannon or loose lips spoiling anything after what happened with Les last November.

why cant you wait until the season ends?

CEO is doing an admirable job so far, against lesser competition. However, I'm not sold yet. Although it appears he has learned and grown from his HC days at Ole Miss, the next few weeks will be more telling. If LSU wins out-- CEO is a top candidate, along with Herman and others. If LSU loses a close one, but wins the rest in a convincing fashion, CEO is still considered. Lose two or more-- there has to be better on the board.
Amazing, how so many fans claim that LSU recruits itself, but now worry that we need a good recruiter as HC. Truth is we need a coach that excels in all areas-- recruiting, game day coaching, PR with fans and media and ability to hire good assistants and adapting to the ever changing game of football. Anything less and we should have stuck with Miles-- and clearly it was time for him to go.
