Does LSU win the 2017 CWS if Eric Walker doesn’t go down?

Thread about Paul got me thinking the man was a great coach in his prime. I think he could have won 2-3 National Titles. 2013, 2015 teams could have won, but specifically 2017. I think LSU wins the CWS in 2017 if Eric Walker doesn’t get injured in Omaha. He was pitching lights out. So does LSU win it all in 2017 if Eric Walker doesn’t go down?

No, Walker was good but he wasn’t a dominant force like that. Tigers weren’t going to hit Florida pitching enough to take two from them that year no matter how you set your healthy rotation

If Oregon State's best player, wouldn't have given a disgusting version of the Heimlich Maneuver, Oregon State would have won going away.

Not so fast my friend.

Walker pitched a CG 4-hit shutout vs a much better hitting Arky squad. Guy could deal as a true Fr.

He also got smashed by that same Florida team in SEC play. His era for the year was like 3.5 which wouldn’t be enough to win either game against Florida. Tiger offense scored 4 runs in 2 games in the finals. Let’s not pretend pitching was the problem

Probably not

But definitely possible. LSU went into that serious at a big time pitching disadvantage

Florida barely hit LSU midweek pitching in that finals series dude. A healthy Eric Walker could’ve easily tilted the scales into our favor. They beat us 4-3 with fricking Russell Reynolds, Nick Bush and Hunter Newman on the bump. Game 2 Poche gave up 2 unearned IIRC and they kinda touched Hess up a little bit for 4 more in the 8th. That series was way closer than it had any business of being with the way the pitching staffs were set up. They went into it with everyone fully rested and we were pretty much the opposite.

This is one reason there needs to be a couple more days between the bracket play and finals series. Both teams should be at full strength on the mound if you’re gonna play a 3 game series for the national title. Otherwise you aren’t actually going toe to toe to see who the best is. We ended up not needing him thankfully but imagine losing to Florida last year and Skenes only gets to throw a couple innings. That ruins an entire incredible college baseball season from my perspective no matter what team it happens to.

Most likely no, because PM would have left the pitchers in too long just like he did in the first game of the Finals against Florida when he expected Russell Reynolds to pitch beyond three innings-which he had not done all season. Everyone in the ballpark knew that was not going to end well. Should have taken him out after three and let RR walk off the field on a high note for his senior year.

LSU pitching was better that year than people give it credit for. And yeah, LSU could have maybe won with Walker but the question is asking for an absolute. Let’s say he throws game 1, you are saying he has to keep Florida under 3 runs. Yeah he maybe could but it’s not some no brainer slam dunk answer.

People act like Walker getting hurt was the only thing that kept lsu from winning it all that year and I just don’t think that’s the case

Florida was better than LSU in 2017, period.

They went 4-1 against us. I don’t think there’s any way you could argue that LSU was better when healthy because Florida proved on the field that they were the better team. They left no doubt.

I find that LSU fans do this a lot. We come up with lots of “what if” scenarios that are mostly bullshite.

Just take your L, admit that the other team was better, and move on.

Hey man, I’m with you. Tigers still had to hit though.

Was in attendance for Walker’s Freshman season game 3 appearance against Auburn at the Box. No hitter through 8 2/3…. Kid had “It” going into that postseason.

No. Weak bats. Excellent question though

I’m being sincere and feel like I remember it pretty well. I remember feeling the exact same way when it was happening.
