In my eyes whether you earn a roster spot as a walk on or as a high school player, it doesn't matter. Earning a roster spot is an accomplishment in itself.

It does help with the very few scholarships baseball has to offer. Then again, if you are good enough, by your senor year you are granted a scholarship anyway.

Don't forget that softball is in same boat.
NCAA only allows 12 scholarships as well, but usually roster sizes are smaller than baseball. Note-- usually...not always.

I am aware of some young men who have have been walk ons at LSU who were not preferred walk ons and who were not good enough to play and never played very much and I always wondered if there was not a financial gift by parents into Tiger athletic foundation.
