Does LSU baseball have any true Walk Ons?

I know we had Chris Cotton come and walk on. Does this years roster have any? We were debating on if Austin Bain was one or not. I know its not very common to go from walk on to getting drafted like Cotton, but just interested to know if any of our current players are.

Thanks! That's who it was! Ell, you are awesome.

Also, define "true"
There are those who are recruited and signed. They don't receive scholarships, but that doesn't make them a walk-on.

I was thinking like Cotton. Someone who went to try outs.

I think technically Mark Laird was? I could be wrong, but I think I remember hearing something about him being a walk on back when he was a freshman.

He was not a walk on. There was talk of him walking on for football though.

Laird was a preferred walk-on for both baseball and football. Then he blew up in baseball and just stayed with baseball.
LSU gets in state kids that qualify to use TOPS. Blame Title IX and the ridiculous scholarship limitations.

I am all for Title IX. I just think Football, which funds every other sport, should be exempt since girls do not have a sport that takes up half as many scholarships.

No.
Laird had a roster spot. A roster spot means he does not have to try out for the team. He is "guaranteed" one of the 35 team members.
He was not a "preferred walk-on". There is a big difference in a preferred walk-on/walk-on and a roster spot. Laird wore purple and gold and dressed in the locker room. Walk-ons dress in the parking lot, wear non school colors, and are only allowed true practice times, only a couple of hours a day. Whereas roster spots (there are 35 of them, 27 of which get a 1/4 scholly or greater) practice much greater hours in groups of 4, in addition to the standard NCAA specified 2 hour workouts.

Laird is a walk on if you ask me. He wasn't guaranteed a spot. When he came here they had a full squad and that's why he went for football. Then when one of our signed guys went pro there was an open spot and many guys had "tryouts" for the spot through summer ball. Laird went off in some wooden bat tourney in BR and he got the spot

He wasn't a walk on at any point while he was on LSU's campus.

One is not like the other.

When he enrolled at LSU he wasn't guaranteed a spot on the team and he is still not getting any scholarship money I think. I know he wasn't his freshman year. By my definition that's a walk on. By yours it might not be
