He said miles contract automatically rolls over if he gets 8+ wins. Anyone know if this is true or not?
it's not
8 wins gets him in the door for a discussion with the board (or AD, i forget) to get another year

Um he beat florida, bama, wv, and NC. Even if we were to slip against arky you would have to roll it over. When you beat the two best coaches in the SEC in the same year and have the record we have you have to roll it over.

I don't believe his contract can be rolled over again. It runs through 2014, and only had an addendum for a 2-year extension, which has already happenned.
His initial contract ran from 2008-2012, with two possible one-year extensions running to max of 2014. A Louisiana state employee can only have max 5-year contract.
Herb vincent confirmed to me Miles contract goes through 2014 season.

I think it should be a year to year deal. No rollovers, once they expire. I am ok with CLM, but also realize he could lose his shite at a moments notice and the results would not be good.

I don't see why you do this when you have no idea how next season will play out. I give him this, he deserves another year. But people need to remember how some games played out this year. We won in some typical Miles, absolute fluke ways at Florida/Tenn. Yes, I know winning is all that matters but you have to look how they won. Do you think LSU will continue to win like that? It happened in 07 and then didn't carry over to 08/09 with some absolutely terrible losses. We lost in fluke ways in fact. Winning seems to give everyone a short memory.
I have just accepted what Les is. A mediocre gameday coach, with balls of steel, great recruiter and needs great assistant hires to be effective. He is a CEO and if he continues to win and make great hires, I don't care if they keep him.

No it should not. We made a lousy deal out of deesparation. The contract needs to near its end and be renegotiated. I don't have a problem with him being here, but the contract was not a good one for LSU and needs to be re-negotiated.

4 more seasons is more than enough. its not like he has big time programs or the NFL banging down his door wanting to hire him.
1 good season out of the last 3 does not call for a contract extension when he has 4 more to go.
previous 2 seasons were mediocre IMO.

I agree, I've always supported Miles and always will while he's at LSU, but I think his contract is just fine for now. There's absolutely no reason to re-work it or give any extensions to it at this point. If he takes issue with that, fine, but I don't want to take the risk of LSU being hancuffed two years from now like it appeared at times that we might be after this year.
That said, If he wins the SEC this season or next season I'm all for giving him an extension.

LSU's record in the SEC the last 3 seasons, 13-11 if i counted right.

When did it get extended through 2014? I though it was through 2012 and we could've bought him out this year if it was a bad year. How much is his buyout currently?
Posted on 11/9/10 at 1:50 pm to josh336
4yrs is another 15mil. I thought prior to this season, the figure being thrown around was 12-15mil.
So at the end of this season, his buy-out contract should be 12mil at the max, which equates to 3 more season?

It is automatically rolled (approved) unless there is just "cause", major violations, etc. It has to be something serious.
Posted on 11/9/10 at 1:59 pm to belowpar
nah, its the discretion of the board(or AD). 8 wins is hardly anything to automatically roll over a 3.75mil contract.
Posted on 11/9/10 at 2:16 pm to belowpar
belowpar is right. It is presumed rolled over based on 8+ wins unless both the chancellor and AD decide for whatever reason not too.
It seems that he's been rolled over for the past 2 years which utterly pisses me off especially after the 2008 season, but it would've likely gotten rolled over this year.
The main thing to remember is that his contract cannot be extended past 2014 without renegotiation. PERIOD.
It's amazing that at a public university that no one seems to openly know if it has been rolled over or not, but it can be required that the terms of his contract be released, which shocks me that no one has done this yet.

Please, no. I hope that those now in charge of making this decision exercise some common sense and fiscal restraint. Their job is to do what is in the best interest of LSU. Those in charge a few years ago gave away the candy store to Les Miles and his agent. Both of those gentlemen are making more than enough money considering that this is the first big win in a good long while. One great game should not translate into additional years or money being tacked on to an already huge contract.

I really hope this isn't the case, Wow, if so

11-1 definitely. 10-2, probably. 9-3 probably not. 9-3 & lose bowl game, hell no. I'm slightly on Miles' side of the fence (not so much after UT game, but after Sat. I came back). A few friends of mine would say "no" even if he goes 11-1, but they would want to kill their employer if their contracts weren't extended or not given a raise after they produced record profits for their company. Too many people let blind hatred stand in the way of common sense.

The contract is not automatically rolled over. It rolls at the discretion of the AD and Chancellor, which at the least did not occur after last season. I am for letting the contract play itself out, and developing a new agreement that recognizes accomplishment, but does not paint LSU into a corner if there is a need for a change of the head coach.

Why in the world would we give him another year? He already has multiple years on this one. It's already a crappy contract for LSU. We still have not even won our division in the last 3 years.

No. Not gonna happen so I don't care.
