He dominated yesterday but Central Arkansas isn’t very good at hitting. Hurd looked good until the balk broke his concentration. Once he gets going they’re gonna be a great 1-2 punch followed by Coleman on Sundays

Hurd was inconsistent the entire season last year. What you saw the other night is not the exception. I think Holman takes Friday, jmo.

I think that was always the plan. I think Hurd starting opening days was a hat tip for his role in the ship.

Honestly, the hope is Holman-Jump-Hurd at the end of the day

I love Holman’s high fastball. Mixed in with a breaking ball and off speed pitches he should be in the discussion for Friday night spot.

I think making any conclusions based on 1 weekend is not something you should do.

With that said, I do think Holman is the best Friday night option because he is the most likely to consistently get deeper into games, in my opinion, which I think is ideal for game 1 because then you know exactly what you have available for the remainder of the weekend. Hurd and Jump might both be more talented but I feel like they will average less innings pitched per start for the season.

Plenty of time to let the lineup shake out. I think Johnson rolls with what we have through the next couple of weeks and reassesses after the weekend in Texas.

Not trying to come to a final conclusion. Obviously you have to change things up as you go along and I think Jay is the best in the business at that.

I know he's still tinkering, but the way he's moved around the lineup the past two days is already impressive.

Have to keep Milam at the 1 spot until he proves otherwise.

More excited for Yeski and Jay tinkering with the pitchers

I agree with all this. I don't think we should make any knee-jerk judgements after 1 weekend, and I don't think Jay will make any changes based on it either. However, I also don't think Hurd has the mental makeup of a Friday night guy. He's a little too volatile imo. He could go out and dominate just about any lineup in the league or he could be rolling along and let a little thing (like the balk Friday or getting squeezed several times last year) blow up and turn into a big inning and get bounced before the end of the 4th.

Like you said, I think you want a more consistent guy on Fridays who you know is going to go out and give you 6 or 7 every week, keep you in every game he starts, and set up the rotation for the rest of the weekend. Even if his top end stuff might be a hair less than another guy. And I think that's definitely Holman and it's pretty inevitable he'll wind up there. How long Jay waits to make that move, I'm not sure.

Way too early to know. Anybody making any judgment about any position or player based on this small sample size need to pump the breaks. The next month will work stuff out

I'm not talking who is our game one Omaha starter. Just talking if or when Holman is moved to the Friday guy

Hurd's A+ game is going to be better than what Holman can give you with his A+ game. The key is, can Hurd bring that type of performance regularly. I think the answer is yes, but there is more evidence to suggest I'm wrong here.

I also don't know what the plan is with Jump. If the plan is to slowly extend him, with the hope that he can start, then Jump is eventually your Friday night guy. This is based off way too small of a sample size with Jump, and not knowing what their plan for him is, but if we can get 6 innings of Jump with the stuff we saw, he has Friday night written all over him.

This. Hurds stuff is great - just has to find some consistency.

If Hurd brings it consistently and Jump can be a Sunday starter. We win 23 games in conference and win the conference out right

Hurd has the most potential out of the group. They’re going to give him every opportunity to bring that potential to fruition.

He’ll be the Friday guy for better or worse until the start of SEC play.

I don't think we have a true Fri night guy.

Holman was about what I expected. I had hoped we'd see something different from Hurd that indicated he'd taken a step forward from last year.

I think Holman will be the guy at some point in the near future. But, I don't think we should expect to have an advantage on the mound most Fridays.

I think with our pitching we can go 45-11 with two conference series losses

This is not true. Hurd was inconsistent most of last season and his confidence seemed low, but he absolutely turned it up several notches in the tournament and Omaha.

Jay will continue to tinker, but I think Hurd is a gamer and he gets better as the competition increases. Whatever night.he pitches, I know Hurd will be critical to our success.

I have been saying Holman since the fall. That being said, Jump is special. If he gets up to 6 innings, he could very well be the best pitcher on the team.

that’s definitly not the hope.

we’ve seen Hurd at his best so the hope isn’t that he’s not at his best.
