It saves pitching staffs a week before regionals. Its not dumb at all.

If that's the goal, then make the whole tournament single elimination.

No ones is complaining about saving pitchers, the format is fricking stupid for an undefeated team in the semis to lose and be out to a one loss team. If that's the case, the first round should be the only round in which you can lose and stay in....problem solved.

The guys LSU would have wasted today and tomorrow likely would have not seen the mound until next Sunday anyways, if they would have pitched at all.
3 games in 2 days without Nola or Poche could mean lots of innings for pitchers who have rarely gone over an inning all year. That's not exactly something I want happening right before post season for a staff that's only 12 deep to begin with.

Or get rid of the Tuesday play-in games. That's killing the staffs with Arkansas playing for the 5th day in a row. It doesn't kill the teams that play and win (like LSU). Poche and Nola are gonna wind up with MORE rest than they do on a weekend series.

The SECT was changed to 12 teams after LSU was left out of the NCAAT in 2011 and the reason given was they didn't make their conference tournament. Now you want to drop it to 8 teams? Kentucky wouldn't have made it in yet here they are playing on Saturday.

Whatever benefits LSU is the way it should be.

I'm just saying that there are other options than to punish teams that win the first two games of the tournament.

It sucks either way you look at it.

LSU is playing for a (admittedly remote) shot at a national seed. What if Arkansas gets lucky and beats us today? shite happens, but there is NO WAY they would beat us twice, because after game one they are literally out of pitchers.

And they wouldn't be out of pitchers if they didn't have to play a play-in game.

I didn't like last year and I didn't like it when Miss State did it to us a few years ago. So I'm gonna be consistent and say it still sucks.

You're right about last year but wrong about Mississippi State knocking LSU out with one loss.

It doesn't suck if we win. And we're not guaranteed to win Sunday or get a national seed if we win it all anyway. Thanks to other teams, it looks like we've got a host locked up, though regardless of what happens. I'm not seeing any downside or upside to any outcome today.

It doesn't suck for our pitching staff whether we win or lose.

It doesn't suck for the 4 extra teams that get a chance to win their way into the NCAAT.

If they win it won't be luck. They still have plenty of good pitchers available today, just none that experienced with starting.

I swear there was an instance where a one-loss Miss State eliminated an unbeaten LSU. Was it in the championship game?

Miss State beat LSU in the champ game in 2001.

But I don't remember if they had a loss.

The champ game is always single elim doe

Better than acc's format. I feel bad for their pitching staffs. It's ridiculous how their format is laid out

Single elimination then double elimination then single elimination again.

Better than Slive's initial proposal that only allowed Bama to get a second chance.

The leaguge coaches vote on everything to do with the tourney so this format was the chosen by the coaches; obviously, they like it & they know a lot more than us.
