The LSU defense held A&M to 250 total yards and kept them out of the endzone for three quarters and could have pitched a shutout were it not an amazing grab despite tight coverage by Kevin Toliver.

We forced three turnovers (looking at you, Donte), held one of the most explosive players in the country, Christian Kirk, to a long kick return of 19 yards while Guice nearly broke one for a TD on the other side.

Fournette and Guice combined for 42 carries for 232 yards and we finally got the backs and tight ends involved in the passing game. Not sure what was up with Harris last night, he has been making those throws throughout the season, so I'm not sure why he was off target, he did get pressured pretty consistently and had a few passes batted at the line, but he has a lot of work to do if we're going to break out next year.

Obviously, we are not measuring the success of our program on being able to beat Texas A&M, but it is a strong signal that 'Les Miles football' works. It just turns out that our thoroughbred wasn't the championship pedigree we thought it was.

Going forward, it seems apparent that Pocic and Hawkins should return next year, as they were abused in the past few weeks, and Teuhema and Clapp already underwent their baptism by fire this year. Oh, and that J.D. Moore guy should be back to full speed by next year. On the defensive side, losing Tre White would certainly sting, but I've seen great things out of Toliver and Jackson, and we are finally amassing some talent and depth in the front four. Can't remember the last time I saw us actually pressuring QBs on a regular basis.

Keys to success for 2016:
Keep Kendell Beckwith at all costs
Let go of BDP and/or Aussie punters
Brandon Harris's progression from Year 2 to 3 is paramount
Keeping Travin Dural wouldn't hurt

We played a really bad team on both sides of the ball.

I think we played more man to man coverage last night and that limited the busted plays.

We have athletes, not Rhodes scholars....tell them to cover their man and let the rest pressure the QB

TAMU is garbage!

LSU played typical mistake prown LSU football for three quarters before finally putting the game away late in the fourth.

Since this is our new level of success at LSU because our coach is a good man I am estatic with the win!

It all starts with the offensive line-if Harris has a little more time-he can chunk it. However, he was as inaccurate last night as I have seen him.

Another year of experience will make for a better team. But this TB Bucs 1991 Tecmo Bowl offense we saw most of the year has to go once & for all.

Edit: agree with OP on game analysis / was pretty spot on , albeit a weak A&M team. It doesn't erase the past 3 weeks if God-awful football, but it was great to get a win.

We were gifted the ball twice in great field position and Guice's return got us down near the red zone again. We came away with 6 points. 6 POINTS. It took an end around and great run by Guice to take a lead. The offense was absolutely putrid last night. The last drive was great, but a&m was gassed at that point.

Superb assessment! It was vintage CLM last night. Strong running game, excellent D with qb pressure and tight coverage (good tackling all night!) and ST coverage/returns that helped all evening. With that said, it was vintage CLM at qb. Harris has got to make some of those throws. Too often he was simply off target. The flea-flicker for example should have been a huge gain to wide open underneath receiver. He MUST make some of those plays if this team wants to jump from 8-3 to the next level.

Agree with your priorities too. Beckwith is a MUST, absolute must. Come back like Ragland did at Bama and be a mid 1st rd pick in 2017. Pocic should return, and Hawkings should if he knows better...he needs it. Other young OL will continue to improve and we have some good ones waiting in the wings. DL should be VERY good next year, and secondary will be fine replacing White and Mills.

We need to get out there on the recruiting road and ensure our 2016 class that LSU is on track, ready to compete for championships...and with that we MUST get a qb in this recruiting cycle.

Great night at DV last night, glad it worked out for our program. GT!

a breakout year is now a 2 loss regular season and a bowl win in a lesser bowl.

Offense look like crap, 19 pts against that horrible defense. Not too much optimism for this offense next year.

This is pretty much where we are as a program. That flea flicker was beautifully set up, but the pass was overthrown and nearly intercepted off of the deflection. We REALLY missed Dural last night.

2016 Les Miles Football works against everyone but Bama, UF, Arkansas and OM.

Loving me that Depends Diaper Bowl...

A&M is bad. The LSU schedule didn't work out this year. LSU should never have Bama, Arkansas and Ole Miss back to back to back with no intervening bye weeks.

We played a ton of zone early on and it confused them. There were a couple plays where it was very obvious that they were looking to motion somebody into a certain coverage, and we just ignored him and stayed in zone, leading to a busted play.

It looked like late in the game we did switch to more man.

Hopefully this is something we see more of from Steele. These guys never ran zone under Chavis and the transition did not come easily.

Redzone efficiency has to improve in 2016. We left a ton of points o the field last night.

Also, I like that we run fades in the redzone. I just don't like that we keep going back to the well so often. Our success rate on those 50/50 balls aren't that stellar I don't think.

I think improve redzone playcalling will go a long way next year.

Game summary: LSU scraped by a bad team with anemic one dimensional penalty ridden offensive play and good defense.
