I know we can just run on them but do you expect more throwing this game or just basically do what we did last Saturday?

We will. We were just scratching the service of our playbook vs BYU.

I've said all along that we would throw more this week than against BYU. There is more room for error against Chattanooga. This will be a lot better game to work on things.

We threw a decent amount Saturday but they were on outs and comebacks near the sidelines. I would love to see more routes utilizing the middle of the field, hitting receivers in stride with space to run, such as slants, posts, digs, etc. And the corner route to Gage was beautiful, especially if it could be used on a rollout hitting a TE.

But at the end of the day, best strategy is play the passing game and offense that exploits your opponent's weakness

I watched some Chattanooga vs JSU. They play a lot of Tampa 2 Defense. That leave a ton of windows in the zones, so look for plenty of curls, hitches and slants. But with Chattanooga being over powered on the line, LSU will have 300 rushing yards

Pretty sure, just as with BYU, we will take what the defense gives us and if its intermediate passes then yes. BYU played with two high safeties daring us to run the ball so we did. If Chatt does the same thing we will run it down their throats and all 4 RBs will have a field day.

I think Les (I mean, O) is first going to secrure victory and then work on the passing game.

I think O was more concerned with winning the BYU game instead of getting flashy with the offense. BYU was still within striking distance late in 3rd quarter. All it would have took for BYU was one solid drive and they were back in the game.

they took what BYU defense gave them.. smartest thing they could have done... or do you want the guy thats at AM now that basically could have taken a knee every play in the second half and won the game??

Me too, but how many college teams really do that consistently? Our QB situation has certainly left a lot to be desired lately, but we've been somewhat spoiled by the huge arms of Rohan, Jamarcus, and Mett over the last 15 or so years. Could throw Booty and RP in there too. The velocity on their passes allowed us to throw in tighter windows over the middle without the same risk as guys like Danny or Jennings. They had much more room for error. I think they were probably the exception at this level rather than the rule.

I think Canada will air it out a little more.

Even though it doesn't seem like it in hindsight, BYU was an actual threat to LSU. So it makes sense that Canada would play it a little safer, and go with a game plan that would ensure victory and get this team off to a 1-0 start.

UTC isn't the same threat. I'd imagine that Canada will want to add some more passing to the mix to give MSU's defensive coordinator something to think about.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see LSU's offense look completely different on Saturday than it did against BYU.

We're going to jet sweep 85% of the game to set up the play action and downhill running attack against State.

I don't think so. I think Canada shouldn't run any play that wasn't run during the BYU game. Why give any additional game film to State?

LSU will win this game even if Chattanooga knows what's coming. So why change things up and tip your hand to future opponents when you don't have to?

From the play by play videos of Pitt's 2016 offense that Cityzen225 ( ) has posted amongst others, I've noticed that there isn't too much throwing over the middle. I'm assuming this philosophy helps reduce interceptions due to limited safety coverage out there.

Canada utilized the F backs over the middle (mostly split out in the slot) but not the flankers as much.

But this board will melt if they don't open the play book up all the way by this weekend.

Seriously though, I would add a few new wrinkles and some different stuff. The guys need some game time work for the plays that they will need in SEC play.

Depends on what the defense gives us.

It will be telling if we don't. Chattanooga is the perfect team to work on the passing game elements that will be required to win big games against tough teams in crunch time. If again this week we don't see consistent downfield passing (and I'm not talking about play action bombs to Chark) then it probably means Canada doesn't think Etling has the arm for it.

???

Has the arm for a 52 yard bomb, but not for 10-20 yard passes? He's already thrown intermediate passes. We know he can do that.
