Ummmmm those coaches you listed did not have the money or facilities we have now. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Why?

Do you still support Miles being let go if Herman/Fisher are off the table

No question. Sure we could do worse. But then again it would be hard to do worse than Les in his current and diminishing mental state.

I am wondering if the search has already begun?
Are the boosters and AD secretly discussing how to handle this without losing recruits/commitments and current players?
They have more time this year since the season is only in Week 2
ETA: I have been wishing for another HC since 2011 with the Lee/Jefferson debacle

I don't completely agree with that logic, but in this instance I'm personally for a change regardless.
I guess another way to work the OP would be to ask if you would prefer Miles over any of the realistic options?
Les is done and has been for a while. Holding onto him is only making things worse. You make a change and live with the consequences or you end up in the same spot.
It is idiots that kept clamoring "What if we get another Hallman or DiNardo? Look at Les' record" that are why LSU has eroded a once true powerhouse the last 5 years. In then end, for the money being spent on the team and coaches, I'd rather try and fail than pay a guy I know will only get you to 9-3 maybe 10-2 at best with nothing to show for it.
You can't always know if the hire is going to be a homerun, but you still swing.

Yes. You don't fire a coach based on who you can get to replace him. You fire him based on his performance or lack thereof.

Neither did most coaches at that time except for the USC's, Bamas, etc. All I am saying is LSU football doesn't just happen. We need the right guy to replace Miles. If the wrong guy is picked it will be 4-5 years of misery making us wish Miles was back.

Last year when Charlie Strong was sucking arse, no Texas fans were wishing Mack Brown back. They just wanted to dump Strong and go for something else.

Fisher is already off the table, not happening

"You don't fire a coach based on who you can get"
Anyone firing a successful coach without thought of replacement is a fool.

I disagree.
Signed,

Never had 5% of the resources Miles has had, so I don't get your point.
DiNardo was paid $500k/year and wasn't allowed to pay his DC a raise to keep him and Reese left. Les gets to pay his OC and DC each over $1 million, and DiNardo wasn't allowed to pay his DC to match UT and retain him. Reece maid less than our TE coach makes right now.
Archer was too young and happened because Arnsparger poisoned the search.
Stovall happened because Bo Rein died in a plane crash and LSU had to panic and get someone.
Hallman was letting a single player convince you a coach made the team (see malzahn).
In the end, LSU isn't going to flail like those teams, especially with the resources available to them.

So to you, you'd like to go through what UT is going through in Austin?
The same issue happened because they were clamoring about Mack's "success". Past success means very little when recent failure (by the standards you set for your organization) are what is happening.
Posted on 9/8/16 at 3:35 pm to slackster
Yes because until you fire him you don't know who else would then be willing to throw their hat on the table. If he is gone, I have to believe we get solid interest from many quality coaches. Coaches don't want to talk while the other coach is still employed out of respect.

If my choices were keep Miles or go with a broomstick with a bucket for a head, I'm taking the bucket head.

I think some of you are misunderstanding that point. People aren't suggesting Miles needs to stay, but the idea is that a plan with more than adequate replacements should also be in place when you make that move. You shouldn't just toss a coach out and figure out the rest when you get there so to speak.
FWIW, I'm for a change, and I think it will be someone other than Herman or Fisher.
