It can still be saved, but the P5 conference will have to act, probably independently of the NCAA. NIL may actually be the smallest problem.

Here is the order of importance and urgency, IMO.

1. Reform the recruiting & transfer calendars. This is the biggest problem IMO but the one that can be fixed the quickest.
2. Reform the Transfer Portal with limitations (the when, the quantity, the frequency). Create meaningful and enforceable tampering rules (players and coaches). G5s need some sort of roster protection for player retention.
3. Create a dead period for coaching hires that extend beyond the playoffs.
4. Reform NIL rules, collectives and revenue sharing.
5. Reform the CFP playoff and bowl games. This may require a P5/G5 split for playoff purposes.

grew up with. It seemed most of those players were t least here two years and embraced the culture

Do y’all just make shite up ? Most players are still here 2 years or more

About 40% of a HS recruiting class stays 3 or 4

Before the portal that was the hit rate on a HS class so more stayed because it was harder to leave but you didn’t know or care about them because they didn’t play

If you’ve got some data to back that up, it will be the first I’ve seen. So please share.

Just punch it in ChatGPT and you’ll find an abundance of data supporting this.

Overall viewership up 4%-5%

Record number of games drawing over 10M viewers

Double digit growth in streaming minutes

The freaking Pop Tarts Bowl drew 8.7M viewers, the same as Games 1 and 2 of the NBA Finals.

Well said. CFP exciting but ... will never be the same. Players deserve $$ but ultimate TEAM game is now $$ Me $$ Me. Fans asked to be loyal to team $$$ players & coaches with no long term commitment from players & coaches.
Fans passion for supporting their teams in trending downward.

100% agree. It won’t die, but the pageantry is dead. CFB is now a semi pro product.… And people would rather watch the MLB over AAA

Your post will get some downvotes but it is accurate. It is integrity that is completely gone now. Not just in college athletics but in society. This “quick fix I want it now” childish culture is a disgrace.
Posters on this board have repeatedly posted that “recruiting is less important and it’s about the money”. Swagoo, Booger, Whitworth, Mathieu, Peterson are examples of newer generation players that were recruited here and bleed P&G.
It wasn’t that long ago when those players were the norm. Not so today.
I’d rather give more to the university than athletics. At least those kids are there for something more than money.

NIL doesn't bother me in the least. However, the portal has indeed affected the amount of passion I have for LSU football, and more so for college football in general.

I still get pissed when we lose and excited when we win, but this quick cycle of dog years free agency has to be dealt with and if left unchecked, will send the game into a level of irrelevancy.

Even in the NFL era of free agency, you know who the core group of players are going to be for a 3-4 year stretch. In college ball these days you could literally have a 90% turnover of skill position players from year to year. You will still have the same amount of casual fans who enjoy the game, but It is just inot sustainable if you want to retain the passionate fan bases, which is what made college football what it is.

College football is broken.

Bama and OSU have dominated CFB over the last decades. Both are not in the final 4 and freaking Indiana is the best team in the Country. CFB is not broke. It just needs some new laws.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how or if cfb survives. The relationship between cfb and the fans is like a marriage and when one party isn't happy, they move on to greener pastures. For me, cheering for a new group of strangers every year that couldn't care less about LSU isn't something I want to be a part of.

Then don’t. Many of us are still going to. Say what you will, but the playoff and now it’s expansion have absolutely increased interest in college football.

The top teams don’t have this level of turnover unless there’s a coaching change. If you look at Ole Miss. Kiffin wasn’t losing key contributors right and left in the portal. You can also look at the defense losing only one major contributor in Breaux as a sign that Baker is good holding his unit together. Kelly didn’t lose a lot of starters or key reserves either, to be honest. Once this offseason is over, you will see more stability here.

Whether it’s through the Anti-Trust legislation that Saban talked about on Gameday, or a complete breakaway of the P4 from the NCAA to become a new entity, this present situation is going to change. There are too many University Presidents and boosters of teams that are getting stepped on for nothing to occur.

Within a decade we will have enforceable contracts that will reduce player movement and lock in the money.

So true, I hate to admit even in the last 2 to 3 games of the season, I had to look at a roster for the name of the number that made the play. I can say I’ve never had to do that in all my years of watching LSU football. Ugh

I would rather know all their names after supporting them for a couple of years and watching them grow into maturity, but in today's world, if they are wearing purple and gold and giving LSU their best effort every game, every play, then they have my support. I will just have to reevaluate who I support every year. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

It feels a lot more like keeping up with a soap opera than anything else to me, with all the controversy swirling around coaching and coaches moving around, NIL and players moving around and all that. keeping up and watching whether players will return for the next year or turn pro or get in the transfer portal, whos getting paid what, whos coming and who is going, whether they'll play in a bowl game or sit out. All that. It's still kind of interesting to follow but just not in the same way it used to be

Would you work for free at your job?
The players should have always gotten a cut of the revenue. It's the portal that needs adjusting.

Just glad they have the names on the back (unlike a few schools) or we'd need a print-out for each game to decipher.

Tv ratings have never been higher and in person attendance nationwide was up this year

That’s because hundreds of thousands of kids graduate college every year and that means more eyes on college football. Plus every human being has access to watch games now. That wasn’t always the case.

College football is the worse it’s ever been in its 100+ year history right now
