Trent stays with NIT
Jordy says a new assistant will be hired with better recruiting contacts - no names
Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program and Trent knows that.

Ricardo Gathers actually lit a fire under Trent and LSU is on a tear - albeit lesser competition.

They need some size in this class and I have no idea where it's going to come from.

Hamilton is gone after next year and O'Bryant is likely headed to NBA next year too. Next year depth will be a concern behind these two guys with Warren and White being seniors.

I doubt it, unless he just has a Tyrus Thomas like season next year. I think he'll stay 3 years

He's had too much time already. The program needs new life in it. I remember when I was a kid in the 80's-90's how exciting basketball can be at LSU. It has the potential, we just need the right coach.

If we recruit some talent, Trent can coach very well. His defense is pretty awesome.

Too much time to do what? Do you honestly think a coach will be fired after this season, barring a major collapse?

If LSU finishes better than 8-8 in the conference, that would be only the fifth time that has occurred at LSU in 20 years, two of them by Trent Johnson.

Te simple answer is no for a very simple reason.

TJ will never win a National Title. At a school like LSU who compensates its coaches very good it should be National Championship or bust no matter it be football, basketball or baseball.

It may seem like over reaching to some of you but every major sport here should be lead by a National Championship caliber coach and TJ is not that.

So you would have fired Dale Brown as well after 4 years? How about John Brady? this is laughable

Good, if you feel that way then give him a lifetime contract, live with mediocrity and pray for a NIT bid every year.

Eta: Just my opinion man. We are going to disagree and there is nothing wrong with that. But if TJ did this in either football or baseball, how do you think the fanbase would be reacting?

But this ISN'T football or baseball, we've never won a basketball title (unless you count the crappy pre-NCAA Tournament title from 1935). I'm not saying keep the man around forever, just not fire him THIS YEAR... There is this thing called gray area, there isn't just the "Fire TJ Now" and the "Keep TJ forever" in this argument. I'm saying right now we should not fire him. I reserve the right to change that opinion

We've never won the NCAA title, so we should resign ourselves to mediocrity and keep Trent.
This is our assigned lot in the universe...
You will be happy with this, or else.

Again, did I ever say keep Trent around forever? Please find me that quote, but maybe, just maybe it's a little more realistic to set a goal we can actually achieve. Say make the NCAA Tournament regularly, then make it to the 2nd weekend regularly, then get to the Final Four more than once in 20 years, then MAYBE we can talk national titles.... Baby steps

Where do you think LSU basketball has been living for all but 5 of the last 17 years?

I'm not sold on TJ, but I'm in no rush to dive back into another coaching search when the team has made significant improvement in its record when compared to the past 2 seasons.

Let's play this season out, the next one, and then we can see where LSU basketball stands and what trend it's taking.

To everything you said. If we don't make the NCAA Tournament or even worse, regress next season then by all means make a change, but why implode what looks to be a major step in the right direction?

It's pretty obvious at this point that those who want TJ fired right now have nothing to back their opinion up with whatsoever.

The direction of the program is getting much better and nobody can deny that anymore. Don't give TJ a lifetime contract and dont settle for average, but that's not what we are doing in this case.

Trent has us turning the corner.

Also, if I hear one more person talk about how "exciting" it was to follow LSU basketball back in the 80s and 90s I may lose it. That would basically be the definition of settling for mediocre.

Is that really our long term goal here? Go to the NCAA's every year but hardly ever win the conference and never make any real noise in the tournament outside of a couple years? That is LSU basketball historically. No thanks guys.

I love Chris Jackson and Shaq, but those were mediocre teams. Exciting as hell, but mediocre.

Yes. How can people continue to make excuses for this guy after watching this team lose like this?
