do we really play down to easy team?

It seems the conventional wisdom, or should I say "Rant Wisdom" is that on a regular basis LSU, under Miles, doesn't put away easy team and "plays down" to the "rent-a-win" opponents. I was curious to see if this is actually true or just something that gets repeated over and over without any basis in fact. In the previous 5 season (not counting 2015) we've played 12 games that I considered to be rent-a-win games. Here are the results of those games listed by margin of victory.
Sam Houston State: 56-0
ULM: 51-0
Idaho: 63-14
NW State: 49-3
UAB: 56-17
W. Kentucky: 42-9
Furman: 48-16
Kent State: 45-13
ULM: 31-0
N. Texas: 41-14
McNeese ST: 31-10
Towson: 38-22
That's an average score of 39-8. The average win was by 31 points with 56 being the largest margin of victory and 16 points being the smallest. So in 5 seasons only 1 rent-a-win team even came within 3 touchdowns of beating LSU. Sure, a couple of these wins aren't as pretty as they should be, but I'll take consistent wins and more dominate performances than not over what most other fan bases deal with year in and year out.

towson game was bad, but never really in doubt. We can swap that for the shellacking we've given top ranked teams. Oregon, Arkansas, UGA. equals out.

The other team scored points and LSU didn't score over 100.
Every other team does this every single time they play lower level schools. LSU is the only team that doesn't.

Can you break these numbers down by 1st and second half?
Please and thank you.

Agree with you
But I think it is Human Nature to play down to the level of the competition because that is all that is perceived to be needed.
Good Golfer's don't want to play regularly with poor golfer's, brings their game down, Human Nature

The majority of these games were close until the 3rd quarter. Yes LSU plays down to the competition.

The truth of the matter is I was at some of those games and can tell you we played down to less talent in the first quarter and first half; play was were pretty ugly almost enough to bring on groans and dry heaves, but LSU just worn them down especially in the third and fourth quarters with substitutions.
Its not a rumor just ask the fans when Miles was at Oklahoma State. It is a form of Mercy coaching which happens even in SEC games when the Tigers could score but Miles has the QB kneel for final 3 plays using up 1-2 min. of clock instead of going for more points even when we are only 15-20 yards from touchdown.

Sometimes, the team isn't motivated as much as the fans would like.
90% of the time, LSU does what it needs to do. I would even venture to say, LSU is better prepared for BIG games with very few exceptions (especially early season games and not post-Bama)

In a nutshell, this is the dumbfrickery of Les Miles.
