even if it’s for one year? or hell…six months at a time? like any written ANYTHING outlining the basics of what is being offered and what is expected? Even if it’s a MSWord template or legal zoom or something.

questions like this always get dv here so knock yourself out but I am genuinely curious. I have seen a National Letter of Intent before and although only a couple of pages, it did imply a certain level of obligation for both parties.

all NIL deals have some sort of contract.
but it is against state laws and NCAA rules to tie a kid directly to any school.

And yet it’s all about Saturday afternoons wearing the school jerseys

This has been discussed on this board so many times.

They get downvoted because they are asked and answered over and over again.

It is against the rule and sometimes state law for a NIL agreement to include which school or any performance on the field requirements. Obviously, there are contracts, usually. Sometimes they have specific appearance stipulations and pay per-appearance, which is an easy end run around the school clause, you just schedule appearances around games so that a guy playing elsewhere can not make those appearances but I think even those are rare.

That's crazy a big contract can't tie him to a school but he sure as hell can receive money from said school or businesses, and then leave. So we can pay him and not lock him down to something? I remember a representative reached out to me to give NIL money to a football player who would do 3 things in exchange for payment from my business during a certain time period. Right before season started, during season and then after season ended. Just didn't make logical dollars/sense for what they wanted from me in exchange so I declined.
EDIT: this was a smaller contract, not a big one. Less than $10,000

While that may be the reason the donor is doing it, it’s not the reason the player is doing it. The player is doing it for the money regardless of the jersey.
