Dislike Pelini but shouldn't Raymond and Busch also be held responsible

Let me make it clear that I do not like Pelini and I want him gone immediately, but it seems to me that Raymond and Busch also deserve a lot of the blame. Those two are responsible for preparing the secondary and that's where our biggest weaknesses are every week. The same errors - missed tackling, poor technique, missed assignments and poor communication - continue to plague us game after game. I know it's easy to blame Pelini - which I do a lot - but it seems like the position coaches should also be held responsible considering that's the only position they are responsible for!

I think you mean Raymond and Busch.

Joseph is the receivers coach

Raymond is untouchable to majority here.

Well, Joseph needs to be held accountable. The WRs also look unprepared. They are all super talented, but coaching is doing them no favors.

Perhaps so but prior to this season raymond and busch appeared to be two of the better coaches and recruiters on staff

Raymond has a proven track record. Busch (I'm assuming that's who you are talking about) was here when the defense wasn't nearly this bad.

There is one change. Why would Pelini not shoulder 100% of the blame?

It’s all on Pelini in that sense, but O hired him.

The secondary definitely needs fixing. Even Stingley looks a step slow this year.

Busch isn’t going anywhere though with Ryan and Derrick Davis coming in.

Every coach that has a say on the defensive side of the ball should be responsible. I haven't seen defenders consistently out of position like this in a decade.

Yeah, because let’s forget about the history he has up to this point. In recruiting and basically assembling DBU.

Not his problem unintelligent joe fans want to fire someone as soon as their unit doesn’t perform as well.

Our DB play was better under Cooper than Raymond.

I think Bill Belichick would struggle with this group to be honest.

I’ve never seen the dynamic 1st hand in college football, and even if I had, I’d guess every dynamic is unique. But, I would think that it would be a collaborative effort between the DC and the defensive position coaches. Maybe Pelini is not working as well with these guys as Aranda did. The DC does more than just install the game plan and call the plays, he’s got to be able to coach the coaches on how to coach the players in their respective position groups. Maybe the collaborate chemistry is not there yet with this group.

Like just about all LSU fans on this board, I have been extremely critical of the job Pelini has done and is doing. The defense has sucked beyond comprehension. But I’ve also been one that thinks, no matter how bad we may want him shite-canned, it’s just not happening after only 1 season.

So given that I think he’ll likely be back next year no matter what, I looked for some silver lining yesterday. And man, our defense has been decimated by the draft, COVID opt outs, and injuries. We had almost nothing but true freshmen out there at some points. Not excusing the coaching at all, but I’m not sure any master of Xs and Os could have those particular Jimmys and Joes playing well. Our personnel is simply subpar right now.

None of them are “responsible”. The reason we are struggling is because we lost more productivity and talent than any team in the history of college football, and the class that could have ameliorated this - the 2018 class - sucked big time. That’s it! There isn’t anything more. Blaming coaches, unless it’s for the crappy 2018 class, is silly.

Just curious? During Raymond’s , an LSU DB alum, tenure here, what school and coach has developed better defensive backs in college and also who went on to success in the pros? Why is LSU considered DBU? What school CB coach this year has a better CB duo than Stingley and Ricks?

Yeah, that's total bullshite.

Nobody denies that LSU has lost a lot. They are still vastly more talented than MSU, Arky and Mizzou, and not behind AU enough to lose that bad The pathetic displays on defense are more than just lack of talent. It's coaching.

Had we only lost to Bama and UF, been competitive against AU and aTm (whether won or lost), and taken care of the rest in the fashion we should have, then sure the missing pieces from last year could have been given full responsibility.
