Endorsements idea I hate, that will only continue to benefit the top athletes, however the reason I support a larger stipend isn’t for those athletes, it’s for the thousands of others that aren’t getting new car leases or even a scholarship. These kids work there asses off with hardly any recognition and don’t even have the time to work if they wanted to. Let them have a worthwhile stipend they can live on.

This would have been a good off season topic. I hate California even more for the timing of it.

If they bring back college football video game because of this every player on the roster will get a little extra money.

I have a feeling Title IX is going to screw this issue to hell and back.

There’s no scenario where Title IX proponents are going to watch one set of athletes make a significant amount more than any other.

Here comes litigation! There are people out there who live for this shite.

As long as it's not the schools paying the players for endorsements then I don't see how Title IX would affect it. On the surface the bill would give all of the athletes equal rights to market their own image.

Mexifornia just spent $300 million on homeless and it didn't make a scratch in the problem, yeah, this is what they need to be focused on. Bad idea. What happens when a local car dealer pays a running back $100 grand , maybe the linemen that block for him won't appreciate that. You're dealing with kids here. As if a $150k education and 4 year wonderful college experience isn't enough. I heard a very successful Auburn grad that played 4 years there on ESPN yesterday. He was a pharmaceudical sales rep, then stock broker, etc. and said every single success in the real world was helped by the fact that he had played D 1 college football. I know 30 year olds that have $100 k in school debt but are very successful. You think playing fb and graduating with zero debt would be a big enough benefit. This is going ot hurt college fb and benefit maybe 100 kids a year out of 45,000. What I hate the most is politicians getting involved. The scariest words in world are " I'm from the government and am here to help". Everything they touch turns to shite.

and what does that sound like? sounds like the real world. most people who work their asses off hardly get any recognition. That's life. All those football players have the option of leaving college football and getting a paying job. Nobody is making them play.

If it affects the ultimate profitability of football by making people lose interest in the sport (likely because of an increased lack of parity or another unintended consequence) then yes it will affect all sports as outside of a few basketball programs across the country and LSU baseball all other sports are bankrolled by their schools football program.

Unless all of the states participate, it will cause a lopsided recruitment, with all of the best athletes going to the states proposing the endorsements ideas. Even if all participate, there will be a great advantage to the more populated states, because of more money from endorsements. If this goes through, I am done with college sports. There will be many to agree with me.

It’s unconscienable to allow an institution to profit off of a kid’s likeness while preventing the athlete himself from doing so. A scholarship doesn’t or shouldn’t mean indentured servitude.

The idea of truly amateur athletics became obsolete about
a century ago.

The kids can play there but they'll essentially be playing scrimmages. The NCAA will just deem them ineligible.

This is preposterous. The kids know exactly what they're getting into when they sign and join. They could join other pro sports leagues if they wanted to be pro athletes straight out of high school.
