Spent all our effort and time going after Napier. He wasn't just the top target, he was the only target.

If we really wanted Dave, we would have gotten Dave. We got our guy. Proven top 5 coach over the past 15 years or so.

Aranda will be the head coach at
LSU at some point in the future.

I would’ve been very happy with an Aranda hire

No he will not. Hopefully, the coach we hired has a ten year career because if not that buyout…Dave is the kind of guy that might stay right where he is comfortable and win. If he does move on from Baylor our job will not be available.

Dave will never be an SEC coach. I know a lot of coaches say things about loving where they are and how good a fit it is and it’s all coach speak and bullshite, but he’s different. He’s not your typical football coach and I would think our fans would get that. I believe he really isn’t kidding when he says he isn’t looking for the spotlight. That works where he is. His philosophy, which doesn’t seem to include playing the big-time recruiting game, also fits there. That won’t go over at any of the top SEC schools.

If Dave leaves Baylor, it isn’t going to be for the SEC. It will be for a Big 10 or PAC 12 program where his philosophy and style will work.

If he keeps a positive projection, then surely his options in the conferences you mentioned would be the very top schools. Which I can't imagine it not being equally as big-time a recruiting game as ANY school in the SEC. So if you're right about him seeking to avoid top level recruiting requirements, then that pretty much leaves him at Baylor.

But it isn't likely that this man would eventually seek to jump into the very top flight and quite possibly compete for championships every year?

Look at the recruiting rankings. Most of the Big 10 and PAC 12 outside of OSU, PSU and Michigan aren’t exactly tearing it up in recruiting. USC will take a step forward with Riley there and Oregon will rebound after their coaching change, but most of the programs in both conferences don’t expect top 10 classes on a regular basis.

I was saying pretty much that, about schools such as OSU, Michigan, USC and perhaps Oregon, PSU and lastly Wisc......those would be the relevant considerations if he generally keeps the current trend more or less. USC and OSU both have coaches who might would consider the NFL within a relatively short time period. And I do think he would consider those schools after another year or two. Maybe 3. And like you mentioned, those schools mentioned above, particularly OSU and USC then also Oregon certainly, I wouldn't believe recruiting is any less hectic than the top SEC schools.

So if I'm right in that after possibly 2 or 3 more years he would consider the referenced schools (if they had serious interest in him, of course), then why wouldn't he similarly consider SEC schools? Seems to me the bottom line on cost/benefit analyses winds up about the same.

I love Aranda but the football gods favored him tonight. Corral stays in the game and it's 35-14 Ole Miss. It pains me to say it because I hate Ole Miss like poison but Baylor wouldn't have contained them for four quarters and their anemic passing game couldn't have kept up. .

He was my guy then and still would be today. Woodward didn’t think the same way; it is what it is.

Baylor had more rushing attempts (41) than passing yards (40). [on 7 completions]
