I get the whole "if it's not broke don't fix it" but this line up change seems to make sense. Jordan is just not the answer at DH. I mean honestly you can't get much worse for your designated HITTER. Just a thought

If slaughter isn't a significantly better defender than coomes (and I don't think he is), this makes no sense. You're essentially replacing a .278 hitting Jordan with a .254 hitting slaughter.

ETA: Jordan has higher obp and slugging than slaughter as well.

I'm a little confused where the "Jordan is a terrible hitter" narrative has come from. He has even better numbers with risp too.

At least slaughter can lay down a bunt if asked. And isn't a guaranteed out on ANY play remotely needing any type of speed.

Coomes hasn't shown anything less than being a very good first baseman. He's been excellent in the field. IMO, CPM should've been alternating Jordan, Romero, Reid, and anyone else from the bench at DH until one of them earned it. Instead, he just gave it to Beau. Pretty terrible that we don't have a DH that can hit at least .300. Inexcusable.

I'll admit I'm too lazy to look it up but if I guessed most of jordans numbers were earlier in the season. And my main problem with him is productive outs. He's been in SEVERAL situations that needed just a ground ball or fly out to outfield and hasn't produced.

his ONLY job is to hit. Where does he rank among our starters doing that? And consider this, every other hitter actually contributes in other ways, while being better than Beau Jordan at the plate. He's easily our worst everyday player. And it isn't even close.

Did you see Coomes gun that dude down at third. Why take him out.

I haven't watched the whole season, but I thought Beau batted well in the second MSU game and this past one. Had a couple of singles to advance some runners and keep innings alive.

Reid must be pretty bad at practice. PM would like to get a lefty bat against a Right handed pitcher.

Comes vs Slaughter. All things being equal to him he would like the Freshman to play as a recruiting tool. I know I would. However, Comes has been clearly better at the plate.

Neither are hitting the ball lately since the SEC tourney began. Jordan struggling at .242 (8-33) and Slaughter a meager .214 (3-14).

I don't know if it's good or bad to make a change.

Reid had a slightly higher batting average than Beau last year. And both of them had a better average than Beau has this year. My frustration is that Coach just kind of settled on being okay with a DH that bats .250 instead of giving someone else a significant chance.

So we've won 17 games in a row and you want to change the lineup? Saw you've had other posts about our DH as well.
Did he do something to you? Thank goodness we have a great coach.

When Coomes replaced Slaughter at 1B it was about then this team turned things around. Coomes has been pretty good at 1B. I'd like to see him remain there.
If you're looking for someone to simply replace Jordan as DH then that's a different discussion. I don't think Slaughter is that answer necessarily.

Beau was 1-3 yesterday and Coomes part of a 5-3-5 double play. I don't think Slaughter would have made that throw.

I'm not advocating FOR Slaughter. Trust me he has his own deficiencies...it's more of having Jordan in the DH role and being so limited. He doesn't have productive at bats even when he gets out (which is most of the time). He doesn't have speed. At least slaughter can bunt, steal, or make it home on a tag situation

Sounds like you would advocate FOR Slaughter doing the DH over Beau...amirite?

Pretty much "what in what" in my book (and slaughter has better speed and can bunt when needed). But I wouldn't care if he gave Reid or even woley a shot at DH. I've seen what Jordan can do. At least slaughter can improve with more at bats

I'll be the first to admit nobody has stood out in the DH role.

Beau got a hit last night. I feel like this thread comes up after every game..regardless if he goes 1 for 3 with a walk or 0-4. Why doesn't anyone like Beau?
