I took a look at last years BA's and compared them to this years BA's see for yourself:

2016 2015 Diff.
Bianka Bell .359 .415 -.56
Savannah Jaquish .355 .318 +.37
Constance Quinn .337 .273 +.64
Sandra Simmons .330 .331 -.01
Bailey Landry .426 .325 -100
Kelsi Kloss .316 .317 -.01
Emily Griggs .299 .343 -.44

As you can see we are not that far off from where were last year. Aside from our to slappers having bad years (Bailey Landry batting 100 points less than last year and Emily Griggs batting .44 points less than last year) The team seems to be doing ok.

Digging deeper I noticed that we are striking out a lot more than last year (Led again by Bailey Landry and Emily Griggs)

I noticed that all of our hitters have roughly the same amount of hits led by Bailey Landry with 39 and last is Kelsi Kloss with 31 Every other hitter on our team has somewhere in between.

So you might ask whats the difference between this year and last year. I would have to say its clutch hitting! Last year we got every clutch hit....this year we are leaving people on base by the bunches. Why are we leaving them on base....strikeouts are big, and not being as clutch as we were last year.

However, it seems we are now playing better defense, and our pitching is some of the best in the nation. I would not want to play these young ladies late in the season if it all comes together.

Guess what I am saying is.... It would be easy to say they are done.....if we couldn't pitch....or hit....or field. But we can do all 3 and when it comes together Watch Out

I think the slappers are having a much more difficult time this year. Our inability to advance runners and make timely hits has plagued us this season.

We opened up well with Alabama, we hit the ball well. Also, Griggs went 3 of 4 in the first game. Ever since that series we have taken a big step back offensively. At times we get way to agressive swinging at first pitches a lot. The A&M series we wouldn't swing until we got two strikes. Comparing them now to earlier in the season, I don't think the confidence is there right now. Thats not to say they won't turn it around quickly.

First, we need to put the ball into play. You will always have a chance if you do that, not striking out, doing so we never have any chance of advancing runners, which is part of the issues.

We need much better pitch selection. Even Torina in a recent interview mentioned that. We have been swinging at a lot of balls and sitting on too many good pitches.

We need timely hits, bottom line. You can't have a girl on 3B with no outs and come away with nothing. Have to be much better there.

The pitching is there, defense is actually now becoming a strength for this team. We just need to be better at the plate.

Without looking at stats, I would say the biggest difference is the leadoff. We miss AJ being on a lot and Bailey being able to beat out sac bunts or hit her over. Then teams were real carefull about pitching to 3,4 and 5. That is not happening this year. Hopefully it starts to work. Sandy is not the fastest but she is a true triple threat and if she starts to get on regularly, things could be on the upswing. Still to be doing as well as we are right now with the amount of hitters that we have that are in a funk, I'll take it.

At what point can we start wanting Torina fired like every other LSU coach? Asking for a friend.

For real. Not sure how I can analyze any of those stats. Not sure what's right.

Yeah I mean never mind the fact that he's got 2016 and 2017 down...he added when he should have subtracted, and subtracted when he should have added, except he did it right a couple times. It's a jumble of inaccurate pluses and minuses.

Wow, you are correct. I messed up with 2016 and 2015. But I think the rest of it is right. First number is what they are hitting now and second was last year. Yes I know it wasn't a big deal to pull the stats off the website...I was just trying to give a visual point. Sorry for the errors

So if the 1st number is now vs last year, the returning starters are down roughly .200 pts in avg? That's not really close to the same. That's a huge drop.

No, closer to .100. Basically Bell and Griggs down, Landry way down. Jaquish and Quinn up.

What is the SEC record this compared to last year at this point? I'm not saying the team stinks, but at this juncture to say the girls are not as good is simply not true.

Baseball, is in the same boat. Still many games to play for both teams.

Well, for example, you have Bell with a higher average this year, but have her at a negative. Then Landry has a lower average this year, but you have her as a negative as well.

BINGO. I was telling someone this the other day. Even though she is just one player, they seem to miss AJ Andrews more than you can imagine. They still haven't found a leadoff hitter to replace her. Last year, AJ was always on base, and Landry behind her was either bunting her over or getting hits, then the table was set for Bell, Jaquish, and Kloss to clean up. The top of the order just hasn't gotten on base as much this year and teams are more able to pitch around Bell...and Jaquish is just in a huge funk.

The bats are about to get better...the next 3 weekends LSU faces the 3 worst teams in the league. They deserve this chance because the first 5 weekends in the league have been brutal. When you face the best pitching in the nation every weekend, it will wear you down. We need a win tonight...then need to win 8 of the last 9 in the league. I think we can sweep them all, to be honest...then will have a chance to play for better seeding when Washington comes to town in early May.

I think a top 8 seed is almost out the window at this point unless we just about win out. Must make sure we beat the crap out of the schedule the next few weeks to secure a top 16

The numbers getting better against bad pitching is not an improvement. The bats did fine vs bad pitching to start the year if memory serves me correctly

You can only play against the team on the schedule that day. We get to finally play crappy teams for 3 weeks...and I expect that the bats will warm up again. Who cares if it shows "improvement" or not...just have fun, score runs, and win a lot of games. Hopefully it will all even out and we will end up around 15-9 or 14-10 in league.

I think AJ was also a solid leader that always found a way to win and be a nuisance to the other team. Defensively she caught balls that drop with anybody else out there.

Our clutch hitting has been awful. Landry seemed to catch people off guard last year and being sandwiched in between AJ and Bell almost guaranteed her great pitches to hit. I believe she is a superb hitter. This year teams seem more prepared to attack here and have had real success tying her up.

Griggs was terrific in the 9 hole last season with the stars following her at the top of the order. It is a different type of pressure to be moved to the top of the order.

We will be fine. Our players and our coaching staff are to good to not break out of this. We have seen really incredible pitching in the last few SEC series and I have 100% faith in our girls and Beth and Howard to be where we expect them to be when it counts the most.

It doesn't matter if we can beat the "crappy" teams. If we can't find a way to hit better against quality pitching, we won't go far in the post-season. With the way our bats have been ice cold, I could see us losing at least one more SEC series before season's end. Wasn't this year supposed to be our best shot at winning it all?
