You don't know how to do Aranda's job. That's what I know.

Well, I haven’t noticed us do a whole lot of that so far this year. Have you?
You’re going to have to give me your definition of “a whole lot” before I can answer that.

their offense involves a lot of quick throws and screens to their receivers who all have the ability to bust a big play off a simple slant because they're all so fast.

This is exactly why we don't want to send both safeties to the line of scrimmage. With the poor tackling from our secondary so far, we need the safeties to be there or those slants become big plays. Our corners are much better at playing the ball in the air than making solid tackles in space.

I agree that we need to find a way to pressure with the safeties, as that's both of their strengths. It'll be key here to find the balance.

The crowd is going to be needed in a big way against trask. Trask only away game has been kentucky when he came in for Franks. Him and alot of those players have not been into death valley especially at night. Also just so happens there only away game was the most points scored on them at 21

With that said we should be aggressive in spots were the down and distance favor us.

This is precisely what I meant.

Well, we haven’t been able to do that with any consistency this year. But we haven’t been especially healthy down there either so we’ll see this weekend. Getting more and more healthy with our front 7 each week.

I know conventional wisdom AND what we want to see is just that... an aggressive defense that makes plays, is disruptive, gets TFL/sacks.

BUT, I both predict and, against my nature, hope that we see a defense that is in concert with the offense.

Lets say we start out that way, and we get 17 pts on our first 4 possessions. I.e., the offense is indeed clicking like we hope and plan for. There's no reason to be as aggressive as we want. Note, I'm NOT saying zero aggressiveness. Just reigned in quite a bit.

As rough as we all have been on Aranda, I do think he has a pretty good instinct for the 'flow' of the game. Orgeron too. Both the offense and defense need to work with that flow and vary according to it.

Also, look at it this way. We know UF is going to come after us, and not just Joe either. Now it could be bad assumption but Grantham does Grantham things so I doubt it. And we are planning/scheming around that. Why should we allow UF to do the same? Why stick to conventional wisdom (mentioned above) and defensive tendencies and allow their offense any comfort zone whatsoever by being defensively predictable?

The thing about that is, we haven’t been very aggressive with our defensive play calling this year. At least not to my knowledge.

I remember reading an article during the preseason practices where one of the defensive starters (I don’t remember who) was quoted as saying Aranda had installed something 19 or more blitz packages. I don’t recall us using more than one or two in our previous games this season. Would be a good time to break out a few more, and I believe that has been the plan all along.

I would play them just like Georgia Southern. Attack, attack, attack. Blow up their option game and force Trask to beat us with his arm.

Agree. Also on offense, none of the look to the side line shite. Run the play with up tempo. I know they did this to work on controlling the game Saturday, but points this weekend will be at a premium. JMO

Knock Trask out. Take your chances with Emory Jones.

Thank god you don’t make the decisions... considering that’s not how we played GS.

Need to get to trask and block up the middle..most his successful passes seem to be in the middle....I don't think he has a deep ball

I just hope we are prepared to shut down the speed option. They kicked our asses with that last year, and they utilized it well against Auburn.

I expect them to put in the back up QB, who is more of a runner, and have packages to include speed option.

We did not sit back and play contain against GSU like we did against Texas. We were much more aggressive.

I'm no coach or football statistician but according to this College FB Team Opponent Third Down Conversion Percentage "3rd and Aranda" ranks 11th in the nation, just ahead of Florida, and the best in the SEC.

I am actually glad Trask is playing. I still have nightmares of that option play Florida ran last year. Don’t think Mullen will have success with Trask under center.

Aranda will be selective in when to blitz. He's been doing this defensive coordinating thing for a long time.

He's not going to go crazy with it and blitz every other down. That's worse than not pressuring at all.
