Defensive LINE, not defensive backs, are more important in this game

Last thing Saban is going to want to do is get into a shoot out with LSU's offense. He is going to want to keep it on the ground as much as possible, burn clock, and keep JD5 and the high-powered LSU offense on the sidelines as much as possible. Defensive line is going to need to hold up vs the Bama run game. If they can't stop the run. . . it's going to get ugly. If they do, I like our chances. I was still fairly confident that had a good shot with all the DB injuries but once Mekhi Wingo went down, I'm not so sure.

If the defensive line can dominate the line of scrimmage then I like our chances. But the Defensive backs are still going to need to play well in both the run game (tackling) and coverage playing the receiver and the ball in the air.

Milroe rolling out and running for first downs is gonna be infuriating. Even Auburn was doing that with Ashford but luckily Hugh was a moron and kept pulling him out every time they started driving.

Exactly right!! 2 and 35 haven’t set the edge all year so not sure why that will change. Gonna have to be someone else. Saban’s best defense is an offense that limits possessions for us. If no one can, then we are gonna have to do something extra to stop the run and in process expose our DB deficiencies even more. With OM and Mizzou, they scored quick so your offense had more possessions. If they get the running game going, it will make every offensive possession a must score and increase pressure on everyone. Will all start or end on the OL vs DL battle line.

Alabama’s rush offense isn’t good. 78th national would be the 7th best rushing offense we’ve played.

their offense is essentially shots down the field.

it’s a reason they aren’t a great ball control team despite having a great defense.

Get ugly how? Does the LSU offense just automatically go to shite or just gives up if Bama has success on the ground?

DB’s were our top two tacklers in the Ole Miss game. How did that go?

Need the guys inside especially to step up - Smith, Lee, Jefferson, Guillory, Shand... all in the rotation. Clog up the middle, keep the OL off the second level / let the LBs scrape, make sure our run fits are sound... all Front 7 101-type stuff.

We do that, we give ourselves a good chance to get off the field.

Wouldn't hurt to get a pass rush and a few big plays from Perk either :)

Ole Miss ran and passed all over us that day. Dbs were the top tacklers because Ole Miss was always running downfield.

The poster, to whom you responded, is dead right. DBs are extremely important in the run game.
