You might be right about pounding the rock but that’s only an option if the defense can get stops. I wonder just how healthy JD is right now. They didn’t pull him out at crunch time on the road out of precaution. Hopefully he’s 100% because if he can’t run he won’t be effective.

I dont think its necessarily a "down field" issue, the dude just needs to throw the ball period.

It’s talked about for good reason. We are 2/15 or something for passes that are more than 15 yards in the air. That’s terrible.

TN pass defense is skewed by UF. Most teams have thrown for 260 on average. Not good but not 128th. They’ve only given up 5 passing TDs. Their scoring defense isn’t bad. Nor is rushing d.

Here's a thought. Maybe if the knee is nicked up enough that he realizes he can't run like normal, he will concentrate on seeing the recievers/check downs and get the ball out.
We can always hope...

Any DC worth his salt isn’t going to change his approach until we can prove we can do what we’re talking about. Until Daniels actually does it nobody’s going to respect it.

Yup. Tenner is going to stack the box and dare him to throw.

Hope he torches their DB’s

Yeah. Their offense is good enough to recover if we prove him wrong. It’s a healthy gamble for them.

Here's a headsup...

The Tennessee secondary is a unit dragging down a good run defense and underrated pass rush because of their inability to cover. The issue starts with scheme. Teams know they can throw on Tennessee because they play soft and don’t cover the middle of the field well at all. The Vols rank top 30 in the country in fewest rush attempts against because the book is out: pass against Tennessee.

Overall, the pass defense is the one major key holding this team back from taking a major ascension in Josh Heupel’s second year. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve made a tremendous leap, but the secondary is game-losing bad right now, and it doesn’t even need to be against the Georgia’s or Alabama’s of the conference, and that’s a scary premise considering where the Vols sit in the polls right now.

We will come back to this in four more weeks, hopefully after four more Vol wins. Or not.

He threw for 300 the week before. What happened in that game?
8 of 20 vs Barn for a 40% completion percentage. He averaged 4 yards per attempt. 6 td passes this season, with 3 of them vs Southern. You don't know bad qb play when it slaps you in the face.

've honestly changed my mind in the last 6 hours and think we should pound the rock and scramble into oblivion because it's so obvious what we are about to try and do on offense lmao.

So we should do what we've done every game so far? Yeah, i'm sure the other coaches surely aren't going to gameplan for that...

The SEC, like the NFL, is a copycat league. The Florida game tells you all you need to know about Tenn.

The Florida QB torched them. That game is main reason their pass defense stats are like they are.

This is the only reason that I feel like Tenn is #4 in SEC behind Ole Miss. Ole Miss has average pass attack but not lacking much else. The money year for championship aspirations is 3 or 4, so TN being this good in year 2 is fantastic for them.

If he took more advantage of his known penchant to tuck and run and kept his eyes downfield he would find wide open receivers behind the defenders that are rushing up to tackle the known running back. Burrow did it a couple of times in crucial situations and JD could really make some huge plays

It’s a very conservative offense. Seems like Daniels only throws it when he feels he has to. Our defense has been so great, he hasn’t had to much to win games.

That’s probably going to change this weekend.
