ZM will start in the same way that Lee started over JJ last year.
Les Miles is still the HC. JL would have to get carried off again. And if JJ returns Mett goes to third string.
And Miles still won't care what the Rant thinks.
quote:
I responded to this....Lee never started over JJ last year at all. He started over JJ once in 2009 purely because he was hurt.
I think you missed his sarcasm in the first sentence. He said Mett would start over Lee the same way Lee started over JJ as in Mett won't start over Lee unless JL gets seriously injured.

One of the arguments I find the most hysterical is "You can't play Mettenberger! He doesnt know the offense yet!" Man, get the frick out of here. It didn't slow down Matt Flynn when Crowton installed hIs new system in 07. It didn't slow down Drew Brees when he came over in 05, and had to learn Paytons new offense. Cam Newton didn't have a huge problem Learning Malzahn's offense last year. Tim Tebow didn't have much of a problem pushing Leak in his first year in Urban Meyer's System. Mett didn't seem to spend too many sleepless nights last year learning a new system at Butler on the way to the JUCO National Championship game.
Head coaching/offensive co-ordinator changes happen all over the United States every year, and the programs don't give up football for the year because of it. Flawed logic.
I can just see it.
Les Miles: "Hey Stud, let's start Mett next week"
Coach Stud: "Les, he doesn't know the whole offense yet"
Les Miles: "Hey Zack, come here real quick"
Mett: "Yeah Coach, what's up ?"
Les Miles: "When you get home tonight, pull out your playbook and make a list of the 25 pass plays you feel most comfortable with and run it over to Coach Stud and Coach Kragthorpe tomorrow morning"
I can live with the Lee is a senior part and he has earned it. Can we please just make it the official reason instead of all the other bullshite.

Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. PLEASE!
All this conjecture of he will do this and he will do that..... If he was starting......
MAKE IT STOP!

quote:I don't think I can. Lee couldn't uproot JJ as the starter since '08, JJ gets kicked off and now Lee is the starter, I would venture to say he hasn't earned anything. If he played as admirably as many poster on here believe then he would have separated himself from JJ and took over last year, not by default this year. The job was given to him.

Also, he lacks experience or he isn't ready, but somehow he will be after playing no meaningful snaps at all this year except some mop-up duty.
Whatever the reason Lee will stay the starter until he is either injured or blows a game.

Don't even get me started on that Jarrt. More flawed logic on the part of the Leeite's . I just don't want to sound like a Lee basher because I absolutely am not (The guy is a Tiger to the core, through and through), and he has done nothing up unto this point to not continue to be the starter. Problem is, when you mention what your talking about, be prepared to be admonished from both the Leeite's AND the Jeffersonite's. They will hit you next with this doozie: "If Mettenberger was so good, why was he third on the depth chart coming out of fall camp ?". Of course they know the answer to this, they are just preparing themselves for their next retort..They know that the answer is that Mett would have had to outplay those two by a looooooong shot, to come out ahead in the fall. Naturally you can't just draw even with them and expect to start over two returning Seniors. Anyway, it's game day bitches. Geaux Lee, Geaux Mett.

Dude, can't you be satisfied with Lee for a while?
Some of you would see Barney the Purple Dinosaur start before Lee- where's all this hating coming from?

Mett - Don't look left for 3-4 seconds and then throw left to your intended target (Boone) in the end zone !!! Worked this time. Boone caught it for a TD 1 yard from stepping out of bounds in the end zone. Beautiful pass. Beautiful play. NW State defender was 1 - 2 feet away from deflecting it (IMO). Replay this as many times as you like (if you are a non-believer). This pass works against AA competition. It may (or may not) work against better competition like the SEC!!!
Mett, keep it up. Great job. I'm not a LSU coach - LSU coachs please improve Mr. Mett's "looking off the defender". In other words, part of "experience" is looking right & throwing left. See "experience" discussed in the many posts above.
Nonetheless, I'm impressed so far with Lee and Mett. Yes, I am !!! Keep it up, guys !

There you go.
Mettenburger has earned the starting spot!
As much as all this bullshite pisses me off when Mett finally does get the starting job you dickheads are going to act like you were right all along... even though you aren't right.

Curious to see how many on the rant change their minds about Mett once this happens. Archives don't lie.

He may in fact earn the starting job at some point, but to say that you can see it coming based upon the play of each QB to this point is simply laughable.
Against the same team for equal amounts of playing time, JL missed on only one pass, threw for the same number of TDs for more yards and no INTs, yet some in this thread act like Lee is an accident waiting to happen and Mett is Jesus Christ in purple and gold.
It moggles the bind.

This is not entirely true... how many other times has the second string guy stepped in(at any position), and play at least as well if not better than the player he replaced(whether it be suspension, or injury)... so that logic does not hold true...

Taser, this might have been a good point if Mett was throwing a slant over the middle, but since the play was a flag route towards the boundary in the end zone, it doesn't really make a hill of beans what Mett did with his eyes. It was a timing route to the "hot" receiver on that particular play. Since you replayed it so many times, watch how Mett uses perfect footwork to sync his timing up with Boone and throw a perfect pass that only Boone could make a play on. That pass is a perfect example of what arm strength can do for you. Not very many college qb's can make that pass with enough velocity to get there before the db can make a play on the ball. It may just look like a 20 yard pass to you but that ball has to travel a long ways to get to that spot in the end zone. If I'm not mistaken that is the pass that Greg Bowser (one of the CST announcers) kept talking about, even after the commercial.

Tiger 79, I hope Lee continues to do well, BUT, if he starts throwing several picks, staring down receivers and freezing up in the pocket and those pics cost us a game or 2, you can bet your arse that "Sophomore with zero SEC experience" will replace that experienced Senior. Because there is a line at some point. I don't know if that line is 3 picks or 13, but there is a line.

The reality is that our qb play since the '07 season has been horrendous. Good luck to Lee from here on out. I would like to see Mett get some meaningful snaps though, like after the Oregon game was decided would have sufficed for me. The NWST game was just a glorified scrimmage. Go Tigers!
